How to correctly round the number according to KAPLAN?

Published

One of the calculation question result was 5.3666 and the rounding to the next tenth was required according to the questions. I rounded like most of the students would round as 5.4 and to my big surprise, the Kaplan sample Nclex test correct asnwer was 5.3 I was shocked, and confused, I am not sure now how would the RN board would expect me to round. ccording to every math book 5.3666 is rounded to 5.4 not 5.3

Please, let me know your insights? do you think that Kaplan made a minor mistake if this type and it should not affect my confidence of knowing how to properly round numbers?

Thank you very much for your time.

I actually emailed Kaplan about a similar question. It was rounding for a pediatrics med question that I disagreed with. I was right and they're apparently working to fix the question.

Email the NCLEX expert and ask! I got a response back within 24h of emailing them my question.

Thank you very much. have you already passed your exam? I will give a 3rd try to my exam next week and I am using Hurst lectures, Kaplan Q-bank and La-Charity. I do not think that I will have enough time to finish La-Charity book.

I haven't tested yet, I test next week (yikes!). It will be my first try with NCLEX. I'm worried, but also trying not to stress. All my friends but one (she'll be testing two days before me) have taken the test and passed. Their tips to me where to just relax, and not stress out. The exam was hard, but to go in with the mindset that you will pass and don't sit and analyze each question trying to figure out if it's a harder or easier question. Just read the question, figure out what it wants out of you, read and eliminate each answer one at a time, make up your mind and don't look back.

I don't think anyone can be truly ready for the NCLEX, because it's so random. But as much as you are doing to prepare, I'm sure you'll do great; people on this site tend to love Hurst, and I hear lots of good things about LaCharity. But at the end of the day, you made it through nursing school, you've only got one more test to pass! Good luck!! (:

Make sure review your infection control well enough. I got a bad pop-up today, so I am sure i failed it. it stopped at 75 questions. Also read your lab values before you enter the testing room, because you will need to know them for the exam. Good luck. I will retry in 2 months and do a better job studying for it.

I actually took my NCLEX this morning, and had a med question. I rounded it up today, but honestly wasn't sure. But I know for peds meds, I think you never round up since peds doses are so small and even a little bit can cause toxicity.

But I only had one medication question, and I didn't have medications and lab values that much than I expected.

I would know positions and procedures as well!
