How competitive is it "really" to get into a Accelerated BSN?

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

Alright I am hoping someone can share some insight. Many accelerated nursing programs when you look online say you have must have: A,B,C,D,E pre-requisites with at least a C+/B- and a gpa of a 3.0 to have a good shot at getting in.

My question is, is that the real truth? That is, if someone scored all B's or C+'s on their pre-requisites and had a gpa of 3.0 to 3.3, does that person really stand a chance of getting into an Accelerated BSN? Or is it more, the 3.0 and the B's are the bare minimum and the people getting in are those with straight A's , 3.7+ gpa?

Anyone who got in to an Accelerated BSN, anyone who got rejected share your wisdom, your gpa etc...

Miiki-

What area are you in and what school guarantees acceptance after taking prereqs there?

So as it turns out, I was called from off the waiting list and accepted into the program! You never know how the tides will turn. Stay positive!

Congratulations on your acceptance!!! :)

Thanks!!!

I just graduated from an accelerated BSN program in California. I do have a high GPA from my ADN program, but I'm pretty confident it wasn't that hard to get in based on some of the students in my class. A few were English as second language and their writing skills were atrocious... So I think it just depends on where you are. There are some schools online that take students from all over the US... something to consider.

Like others said, I think it mostly depends on where you are located. I got accepted to an ABSN program starting this fall with a 3.64....I did not have all A's in my prereqs (B in A&P I and was not finished with A&P II or microbio at the time I was accepted)...I am not sure how competitive the program is...I know the traditional BSN is extremely difficult to get into, but I think ABSN is easier. But that is just my school. It is about 20-30ish mins outside Chicago.

HEY Miiki, what is that one school that guarantees entry? What part of US do you live at?

I was accepted into an Accelerated BSN with a cumulative GPA of a 3.2 and pre-req GPA of a 3.4. Double majored in Nutritional Sciences and Public Health and Minored in Kinesiology. Was on a Cadaver Dissection team in undergrad. Gained my CNA and Pharmacy Tech licenses. Participated in extra curriculars as well as volunteered at a Hospital. I also carried two part time jobs in undergrad.

My point being --- show that you can carry a heavy load and handle it. If GPA is lower because of that one professor or that one class when you were 18-21 make up for it in other areas and you should be fine.

Hi! Where were you accepted? @User1254

I am planning on applying to one ABSN here in NYC. I have done an extensive research in terms of the pre-reqs, GPA, exam scores etc. For many ABSN programs I have researched, it seems like only 4.0 students have a chance. I heard students with 3.8 GPAs and high scores on exams did not make it. First, it is ten times more competitive than generic BSN programs. Second, different ABSN programs administer different entrance exams, and establish their own cut off scores. The school I will be applying only accepts 20 students into its program, while hundreds apply! So, I am keeping my fingers crossed trying to do as best as I can on both my pre-reqs and an entrance exam.

Where are you from?
