How does your class plan on raising money?

What kind of fundraisers are you guys having this year to raise money for class trips/school activities, graduation/pinning ceremony, etc.? I was just wondering. When you ask around you start to see how creative some ppl can be. So far we have 2 going: a Halloween carnival Saturday and a raffle for 16 home game hockey tickets. It seems to be going pretty well:) Just trying to get some ideas for future fundraisers.:)

our class has made a lot of money so far. we sell t-shirts, long sleeve, short sleeve, sweatshirts, hooded sweatshirts. you can get them with the school logo, with the school name or with the "top 10 nursing diagnoses for nursing students". shirts were printed up by a local company, and samples were shown to our class and to the first year students who then placed orders.

lots ordered. many ordered more than one shirt. i dont know the exact amount of money b/c i am not the treasurer, but i've heard its a lot. and a great way to be proud of your school.

we are selling also selling candles, and at the first year student's nursing program orientation, the second year students sold breakfast items-sausage biscuits, fruit, coffee, donuts, etc (some donated, some bought at discount) sold lunch to them-pizza, sold snacks to them. that made money, too, b/c the school cafeteria was closed during the summer.

car washes, too, in teh summer.

We haven't done it yet, but I understand that previous classes set up a room in the nursing building and charged a "donation" (well they had a donation box there, so didn't actually "charge") to do basic health checks on people. Stuff like blood pressures, BGL testing, working out BMI for people etc. Apparantly it was fun!

You could also do stuff like foot and hand massages with aromatherapy etc I reckon.

T-shirts with the school logo on it, theme baskets that people buy raffle tickets for (basket with stuff of the current holiday), and a yard sale. Thats all we have come up with so far....

I have found that the biggest fundraisers are baskets of goodies, donated by someone. For instance, I was doing a fundraiser for march of dimes, and working on a postpartum unit. I made a basket with champagne, glasses, candles, crackers, and got the nursey to donate formula, diapers, nuks, coupons, etc. I put it all together as a "celebration of baby's first day home". The entire basket cost me about 15$, (cheap champagne, dollar store glasses), and we raised app 85$ on a dollar raffle for the gift! That is 70$ profit. Then, if you wanted you could take whatever monies it costs to make the basket.... Other suggestions for baskets... gift certificate for pedicure $10, foot lotion, scrubbie things, (all can be found at dollar store). A relaxation basket, body soap, body oil, towels, candles. A toy basket (for kids). A sports theme basket. (I also put together an LSU and Saints basket (for men). They all were relativley cheap and people buying chances to win, makes alot of money. AND people don't feel like they are being SOLD to or pressure to BUY something. It is a raffle.:) Oh, you could also go to local businesses and ask for small donations for the raffle, aka, car washes, oil changes, discounts on tanning, portraits...etc.

We've done a raffle, as well as a "tip-a-nurse" where the students wait tables at a local restaurant (at which one of the nursing students is an employee). We've earned enough to send 8 students to the SNA conference in Florida next month.
