Hello!!! I'm an LPN and I currently work in the ED of a level 1 trauma center. I've been in the department for about 4 months. I've assisted in codes, triaged, splinted, thrown a bunch of IVs in patients, all the usual ED stuff. Working in the ED has been my dream...or so I thought. I assisted in a code today and I have yet to get that "high" that I thought I would. My question is does this mean emergency medicine isn't my specialty? How do you know what speciality is "the one?"
It's really just where you are comfortable and enjoy working. I mean, I love my job and I definitely have "A-HA, this is why I do this" moments, but I do not spend every shift in a dream like happy state.
