How can you tell if antiembolic stockings (TED) are working?

Published

Hello! I have to give a presentation on TED hose and one of the questions are how to tell if it is working. The only thing I can think of is they have no or limited swelling and have no clots. Am I forgetting something? I have researched in my many textbooks and online and have found no other information.

Thanks!

Let's not overthink this. :)

You can't actually tell if they "have no clots" but you can look at peripheral edema. Are the toes sticking out? Are they puffy?

Using antiembolitic stockings is evidence based practice. Search the evidence, eg find artiles supporting its use and there should be your answer.

I would also add in your presentation "are they applied correctly"? Makes a difference, and there are many ways to apply them, but only one correct way!
