How can NUR 111 and NUR 118 for NOVA not use any textbooks?!

I was at the Medical Campus trying to find the textbooks I will be using for NUR 111 at NOVA. I couldn't find it! I also tried online at the bookstore: http://nvcc-alexandria.bncollege.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/BNCBHomePage?storeId=24557&catalogId=10001.

It said there are no textbooks used for this course!

How is that possible? NUR 111 and NUR 118 are both 8 credits each!

Is it supposed to be a secret what textbooks I will be using in NUR 111? Is my professor just going to tell me on my first day of nursing school the name of the textbook and then right after give me a test on the first chapter?

How can you not use a text book!?

Can someone please tell me what books they used in this course?

Oh, they use textbooks all right!!! When you go to orientation they will give you a list.

One has to goto the MEDICAL campus in Springfield to get the books. If you goto another NVCC campus, they wont have them. I have a scanned copy of our classes booklist (Aug 2007 start) I highly recommend getting the study guides as well for the text books nor NUR 111 and Nur 118, they are very helpful

The two main books for NUR 111 are

Harkreader fundamental of nursing 3rd edition ISBN 978 14160 34360

Ignatavicius (better known as Iggy) 5th edition ISBN 0721604463

Mckinney 2nd edition maternal-Child Nursing ISBN 0721606997

KEEP IN MIND, the books may have changed for your class!! Cheaper yo buy the books off of Ebay.com, half.com or amazon.com

As stated, one has to goto the Medical campus bookstore for most of the nursing books!! During orientation last June, they provided us with the booklist. Best of luck, and be prepared to study!

Thanks! Hopefully I can find these books in a library somewhere since I don't know if they will be using them yet. It would be nice to read over these books for the 2 months before classes start to get an idea of what I'm really getting myself into.

Ya, I would wait on the official word on what books they are going to be using. Rumor has it that iggy is on the way out, but its only a rumor. Medical Campus library would probably have the books!!

Hi, I will hopefully be a NOVA nursing student in Fall 08. I was wondering the same thing as Nstudent88 on subject of the books. Thanks for posting the question. The next 2 months I will be reviewing my A&P book and going over math concepts. I'm nervous about what to expect, I keep hearing how hard and the training is and what wonderful jobs the professor do.
