How can I become a Pediatric Nurse?

Published

Hey Members!!

I'am hoping to be a Pediatric Nurse and wanted to know is their a "specific" course I would have to take to hold that title?.. My mission is to do the LPN.. then to transfer for the LPN-RN Program @ Broward College.. Any advice will be helpful!!:redbeathe

Basically, you graduate from nursing school and then get a job in pediatrics. Some hospitals will have internship-type programs for new grads in particular specialties.

There are certifications that nurses can earn in particular specialties (like Certified Pediatric Nurse), but that type of thing is something you earn once you've been practicing in the specialty, usually for >1-2 years full-time.

Thanks for your advice. It's basically getting place in the Pediatrics ward. One the thing that was mention to me by RN is that it helps to have taken a Childhood Prep Course, just like you mention.. Lolz! Who knew.. :D

I have been trying to get into peds for about a year now. Best advice is to talk to everyone! I have been talking to a nurse manager and the nurse recruiter. And my local peds hospital wants your BSN, so thats what i am doing. But I have found that most people have some connection to a peds atmosphere. When you do your volunteer work, make sure it is Peds related somehow and keep in contact with those who could eventually help you. Sometimes it is who you know that is more important than what you know.
