How big is your "unit"?

Published

I was wondering how big your NICU is.

The NICU supports a 17-bed intensive care unit and a 13-bed intermediate care unit (both with private and semi-private rooms.) A neonatal transport team is on call 24 hours a day to transport premature and/or sick babies from area hospitals to our NICU.

^ That is the NICU I hope to work for in like 4 years (haha). Its a level 3.

Specializes in NICU - 112 bed NICU.

The unit I work in is 112 beds, 64 beds in level 2 in 5 pods with semi private rooms and 48 level 3 beds. We often run over 100.

I work in a 50 bed unit - 30 ICU beds, 10 Special Care, and 10 "feeder grower" beds. We do transport, HFOV, NO, and limited surgical.

So on our "58 bed" unit right now, our census is ... drumroll please ... 71!!!

Specializes in level 3 NICU.

we have a 50 bed level 3 unit. our census is always above that. the unit was too small the day we moved in:down:. we can't turn any baby or mom away so with winter here all the homeless moms are delivering left and right (with 23-24 weekers no less):angryfire

We have a total of 58 spots including 6 "overflow" beds that we steal from our peds floor and staff with our nurses. It's a level III, and we are getting ready to starting ECMO now!!! Our beds are spread in 6 different rooms and we have a little OR too!

Our new projected unit has 74 private room.

Ok... so am I the only one who thought this title was funny??? :lol2:
