I am starting my second job which is part time on April 1st. The thing is the first 2 weeks is central orientation ands it's 5 weekdays. I work 3 12s on my first job I would need to get a day off to make it through the transportaion. How do I put this nicely to my manager? Thank you

ask for a day off for personal reasons. No need to explain

Sorry, I'm not sure I see this as adjustable. Hospitals are required to have each new hire complete orientation requirements mandated by JCAHO, OSHA, and the state dept. of health ... and that's outside of/in addition to actually getting you oriented to the job. It is what it is.

The orientation of your second job comes first,or didn't you take this into consideration when you took your second job?

Request a day off. "I have a prior commitment on this day and will be unable to work." If you need to use PTO for that day, you just send her an email and say, "I would like to request to use 12 hrs of PTO on this day." You don't need to tell her why. I took a second job 2 days/week and didn't tell my manager why I was requesting every Monday/Tuesday off when I sent her my requests. All I said was "my schedule is changing a bit and I have conflicts most Mondays/Tuesdays." It wasn't an issue. Less so now that I gave my notice at that job on Monday. When I applied for a new permanent position, I told them "I have another job on Mon/Tues that I am going to keep so I will be available Wed, Thurs, Fri and some weekends for you." It wasn't an issue.
