I will be relocating to Houston in December to begin a job at MD Anderson.
Is it better to live in the suburbs and commute or live around or in the Texas Medical Center?
I will be working 7p-7a so traffic should be a little better.
Anyone with some info about possible areas to live, please feel free to comment.
Okay first of all med center is not high in crime. Everywhere you go you see people in scrubs or carrying backpacks. Anyways if you want to live in the med center stay inside of 288 try cambridge, OST, or Holly Hall.If you want to stay outside of the sity a little try Pearland with 7p-7a shift you should be going opposite of traffic. Which is very important in Houston.
Anyways good luck!
If you notice I said right outside the area is a high crime area. Have you been off Almeda lately on the south side of 610? Have you been on the east side of 288? How about north of the med center off Fannin or San Jacinto? Those areas are extremely high crime. The med center itself is pretty much safe but you still need to be careful at night around here.

Yeah, outside the immediate hospital areas, everything is a bit, erm, "ghetto". I live in it...
Living in the Medical Center would be ideal if you can afford the rent. It depends on what you are looking for efficiency to condos available. I know of one apartment complex that has efficiencies to 2-bed room apartments. They also give discounts to nurses that work in the medical center. The apartments located at 7600 Kirby Drive The Crossing on Kirby Apartments. I hope this helps. Prices 500.00-700.00/mo. Includes Water. Good Luck

I live in Sugar Land and commute to the medical center to work and go to school. Thanks to satellite radio, the commute is tolerable. If you need a place to stay until you start, I have a room to rent :)
