Houston nursing office jobs extinct?

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hi everyone.

I recently left my wonderful QA home health job and moved to Houston because of my husband's job. I've been looking at many home health agencies and haven't been able to find any QA position. I've also applied in hospitals for nurse auditing or utilization review positions but still have not heard anything. I have an injury which doesn't allow me to walk or stand for long periods of time and QA nursing has been great for me. I've already started to feel very depressed over the lack of work and all the rejections. What other jobs exist in Houston for office nursing? Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance everyone.

So sorry you are experiencing so much difficulty landing a new job.

I don't have a lot of insight into the Home Care environment, but based on the experiences of colleagues, those support-type positions are generally filled very quickly from internal candidates.

In the acute care market, most Houston area facilities have begun requiring specialty certification in addition to significant levels of experience for nurses in support positions (Performance Improvement, infection control, case management, education, etc.). If you don't have certification, it would certainly make you a much stronger candidate. There is also a real push for BSN/MSN preferred throughout the area for non-direct care positions.

I realize that our commutes can be a real bear, but have you explored options in all of the suburban facilities that are within a reasonable driving distance? They are generally not as picky.

Good luck! Feel free to PM me if you feel I can provide any additional insight.
