Hi everyone! I graduated with my BSN and I'm applying for residencies in the Houston area. Best of luck!

I applied the day the application portal opened. I have heard back from West and The Woodlands. The recruiter for West said they do not have any NICU spots (which is what I was going for too), but wanted to get my choices for specific med-surg units to interview for. Additionally, I was invited via email to a pre-screening interview event on 2/29 for The Woodlands location.

Confused because they haven't even interviewed for NICU yet ..... and they said it was available.... so did you just email them or did they email you?? I also applied the day they opened

I know I wondered the same thing because I was confused why I was getting called regarding med-surg (2nd choice for West) before hearing anything from NICU (1st choice). But I had received an email on 1/24 to schedule a call with the recruiter and then spoke with them on the phone a few days later. If I could guess, that position was likely filled internally by a student professional nurse (no idea for sure though). But I ran into the same situation with Sugarland and the ICU. I applied the day apps opened, and within a few days the portal updated to another applicant was selected.
I noticed this with hospitals up in the DFW area (where I'm studying at) too. My friends have told me that they get callbacks from a hospital only to be told that most units are full, despite applications still being open. It's weird, I don't trust hospitals anymore bc of this LOL. I'm worried I won't get a job at this rate
I applied to HCA for the Spring 2024 residency and the same thing happened. They told us they didn't have details on dates or spots open but they would put us on the list. I never heard anything back from them but someone on an allnurses thread said all positions were filled when they talked to the recruiter. I thought it was just because it was HCA, but apparently not?

when I applied (only one location) and wanted nicu, but recruiter said they didn't have any interviews available so offered me mother baby instead. this was like a week ago, I can't imagine ALL spots being filled EVERYwhere, they have multiple locations — update just saw you said Spring and not Summer 2024 LOL

You got offered an interview for mother/baby? That's what I want but I haven't heard back from the recruiter since the pre-screening call ? I hope they still have positions for that unit

the prescreening call is when we discussed the units & she asked me dates I could interview with the unit. I interviewed and then got an offer (I accepted but hoping I get nicu at another hospital) — but remember it's location based as well as far as units available.
