Houston Nurse Residency Summer 2020

Updated:   Published

Starting a thread about Houston Nurse Residency programs that open this month/next to start in June/July!

@FutureMrsNurse I’ve heard on another thread a person got a job in the Katy NICU but I haven’t heard of anyone else getting hired at any other campus or children’s ? a friend and I both interviewed for NICU at children’s and got rejected

Same thing happened to me. I was just curious to see if they ever actually hired anyone ?

@FutureMrsNurse I’m starting to think they didn’t take anyone ? another girl in my class interviewed for NICU at children’s too but I never heard if she got it or not

I don’t mean to be the negative Nancy under this thread, but what would be y’all’s next step if you don’t hear back from anyone? (Seeking advice for myself)

@xono I know some of my friends have a plan B in which they would go to do home healthcare. Nearly all home healthcare areas are willing to take you immediately. I know that some even have a new graduate residency. Another thing you could do is to wait in June/July and apply for October residencies. (You can get into a residency within 1 year of graduation I believe). I also know someone who didn't get a residency; however, when she got her license she was able to get hired at TCH. Once you get your license you're more preferable.

I already have my licensed, & graduated may 2019. Do you think it’s possible for me to skip residency & just start applying from hospitals since I am almost a year out of school?

@xono I’m sorry ? don’t get discouraged! I would definitely look into home health, there’s a couple Pedi home health companies I’ve looked at and they train new nurses. You could look into St. Joseph’s if you’re wanting to stay in Houston!

Do you mind sharing with us what happened? Were you not able to get just residency or job too? . I am moving to Houston and I am curious to know what am getting myself into.

I don’t by any means want to scare anyone LOL. But my story is very simple. I graduated May, got into MH residency program for Oct 19. The day of my exam it FLOODED SO BAD in Houston & I was not able to take my exam. I had to repay for my exam & waited months for my ATT from my school, which led me to give up my offer because the only available test date was after the start date of MH residency.

I reapplied to only MH, thinking I was for sure going to get the job bc I communicated so well with HR, but unfortunately did not get the job.

I truly believe in God’s timing, so whatever is meant to be He’ll bless me with it! ❤️

Thank you for sharing. Whatever is yours will surely come. I applied to 6 places and only got 3 interviews. That’s the odd. But God will see us through.

I know a girl considering outpatient dialysis. She has already had an interview.

I graduated in August, passed my boards in October. I missed the deadline for the nurse residency programs for the Winter. I recently started applying to skilled nursing facilities and every last one of them hired me instantly. Cornerstone will hire you as a new nurse as well. I'm waiting my my background check to come back.
