I have some paperwork from a few years ago when I had looked into HBU. At that time, they charged $395 per credit hour!

I was accepted to the school (for my prerequisites) and offered a partial scholarship; however, it still was much more expensive than a public university. But, I was looking into the BSN program.

Also, be aware that you must do several hours of volunteer and religious tasks in order to graduate. You can have straight A's and if you do not complete these tasks on your own time - you DO NOT graduate.

Good luck.

Please define religious tasks. Also, I've volunteered in the past. Can I use that past experience, or must I do it while I'm in school. I feel bad about applying because I'm not Christian.

All HBU graduates have to accumulate 90 SLP credits (spritual life points) that you accumulate by goin to certain spritual functions, missions, gathering, and volunteer time etc...transfer students automatically get .75 points per credit hour that they transfer in. You also have to fulfill 9 credit hours of Christianity courses to complete your major. It is rare to find a course that transfers in to satisfy these courses.

Volunteer work is encouraged for those individuals who are seeking pre-health professions...

I did a lot of research over the last year......

Ree Nee,

Do they force yourself to take the Christianity classes even if you are not Christian. Can you take Ethics or Philosophy or something else instead ? Also if you are not Christian can you do you voluntering at a Hospital, a temple, a mosque etc ?

Also Im still trying to get a better idea of the cost of tuition per year. They seem to have quarters instead of semesters, so my question is given a 4 yr BSN pogram, once all your prereqs are done, you would normally expect to complete the final coursework in 2 yrs. How much $ per yr in tuition are we looking at for each yr ?

Thanks.

In short, yes they can. They are a private Baptist school. You have to look at taking the Christianity courses as taking them for pure educational reasons only-they are not tryin to impose on you or change your beliefs- just educate. Following one faith or religion doesnt mean you cant learn about others. Im Catholic not Baptist and have seriously considered their College of Nursing because it is one of the best in the state. Ethics/philosophy are courses required to fulfull other parts of the school's core curriculum. The BSN coursework is 3 years total. Fulltime means taking 8 credits or more per quarter. Cost is $465 per credit hour per their website...Without room/board and financial aid that comes to about 17,000 per year. I know it sounds like I work there or something but I just have spent the last several months weighing all of my options and this was one of them...

oh and I think the SLP events and volunteering stuff has to either be officially sanctioned events or pre-approved...something like that...

Great post. I have also been researching and I even attended an open house HBU had. I'm still deciding whether or not to go there if I don't get in at the other colleges; or just go for my ADN and bridge later. I once called and asked the nursing admissions rep if preference was given to current HBU students and she said "yes". The costs bothers me; however, my main concern is really having time for the sanctioned events. I'm already involved in my church and once I'm home from school - I want time for my family and homework. I have heard that the teachers are really nice though. OK, I'm rambling....talk to ya later. :uhoh3:
