Hello,
I am new to this site, so this is my very first post. I will be relocating from Georgia to PA for the FACT (ABSN) Program at Thomas Jefferson School of Nursing. Please can anyone recommend some good affordable ($500 - $950) apartments close to the school? I would really prefer one bedroom apartments. Also, I really want areas close to the school and public transportation because I will not have a car. Please, any recommendations would be really appreciated.
Thanks!

Welcome to AN!!
I provided a link to an apartment website: http://www.zillow.com/homes/19107_rb/
To my knowledge, in that area, rentals are not even in that range; in my area it's not even a range for that amount it's a pretty pricey area. Most rentals in a moderately good area start at 1,000 dollars.
Center City is pricey; downsides are parking, but the upside is accessible public transportation, area restaurants and shopping. You may be able to find a few places that are less, but most rental rates are over 1,000. I would suggest looking up the best neighborhoods to live in Philly by zip code and find out what would be reasonable for you. Your price range may put you in an area that maybe a little dicey as well. Research an area and find out what would be reasonable for you-there are websites with information about Philly neighborhoods; they include crime statistics, rental pricing, etc.
Not sure how you will get around Philly, however visit septa.org to get familiar with public transportation as well.
You can always find out through Jefferson what off-campus housing they use, and try to go to the management company, where they may have suggestions.
Hope this helps!

Thank you LadyFree28 for the suggestions. I do have a car here in Georgia. However, I was advised to leave it behind while relocating for the program due to parking availability issues in most areas around the campus. Do you suggest I bring my car?
Thank you for the list, Esme12!

There's public transportation that takes you everywhere in the city; it really depends if you want your car for flexibility.

You will need a ride of some kind eventually in the FACT program. If things go as they have in recent years, the first couple rotations you have a good chance of being close to campus (though some, especially in tele, are in Jersey or elsewhere). For OB and Peds you may be placed at one of several places in NJ or DE. I've never used it but I hear Zipcar might be the way to go if you are dead set on not bringing a car. Either that or buddy up with someone in your clinical group who can give you a ride and also lives in the city.

I agree with the previous responders. You won't find rentals close to Jeff in your price range unless you find a roommate. However, you could find suitable apartments, or even houses, to rent in South Philly, West Philly, or several other areas of the city with not too bad a commute by public transit.
If it were me, I'd bring the car--you're going to want to go places in the area for shopping, eating, and cultural activities, that are just not as convenient on public trans. I lived here in Philly almost ten years without a car, but I got one as son as I could.
Please feel free to email me if you have any further questions, as I've lived all over the city since the mid-'70's, and can give you honest evaluations of each neighborhood
Thank you all for the great advice. I just found out that I got into the Univ. of Cincinnati Accelerated Program, so I have some hard decisions to make. What do you all suggest about the two schools, which one should I choose?
I'm team Philly.
