I am also first semester ADN. We start clinicals in 2 weeks and will do 7.30am-2.30pm Mondays and Tuesdays. Those hours will stay constant until the end of spring semester. We do OB next summer semester so I am not sure if the clinic hours are different. As far as I know it is only the night class that takes late and weekend clinics.
Hope this helps
All schools are different in this area (ie clinical rotations)-I have clinicals once a week for 10 hours-and thats only for 9 weeks of the semester. Next semester, I have two days of clinicals ALL semester. Check with your n. department (I know they arent always very helpful ) or find a classmate thats ahead of you!
Good luck,
Amy
All schools are different. 6:30-4:30 is a really long rotation, especially for your first clinicals. Congratulations on doing so well so far. I know it's hard. My rotation right now is 9:30-5:00. It's a long rotation compared to other mental health rotations in my program that go 8:30-2:00. (But I won't go there, lol).
Different states require different amounts of clinical hours. My first semester I only have to take 45 hours of clinicals. We do this every Friday for about 5 hours. However, my third semester (in the summer) requires 90 clinical hours PER CLASS and there are three of them! That is 270 clinical hours over a 10 week period. I will be in clinicals for about 30 hours a week. The schools you are talking to will be able to tell you what to expect.
My first semester we had clinicals from 6:30am to 12:30pm, twice a week. My second semester we had clinicals from 6:30am to 2:30, twice a week. I'm currently in my 3rd semester and we are doing one day a week clinicals from 6:30am to 5:30pm. There are 5 different clinical groups in my class and we all have clinicals on different days. I'm in the "E" group and have clinicals for 4 Wednesdays, then I have 3 Sundays, then back to 4 Wednesdays. And next semester, I will have clinicals only on Mondays, 11 hour days.

Hi,
I am currently attempting to get my ADN on a part time basis. I am taking all of my courses before I start clinicals. I have three children: 2, 4, and 7 so I am trying to minimize time away and also maintain a somewhat normal balance in my life so that I will be able to study without staying up all night:) So far I have straight A's so I must be on the right track.
My question: What are typical schedules for clinicals? I do know that my first semester I will be in clinicals from 6:30 AM to 4:30 PM two days a week. I have also heard that some ADN programs have OB clinicals on the weekend. I have an appointment with both of the schools that I am interested in next week so I will hopefully find out more then. With 3 little ones I need to start planning out my schedule way in advance. Another student told me to be really vague as to why I need to know about clinical hours because they may worry that having children will keep me from being a serious student.
Anyway..... sorry for rambling, what are your clinical hours?
thanks
Tracy
