Hourly rate for RN/Charge

Published

Just wondering what you think is the "average" hourly pay rate for an RN with 5 or 6 years med-surg experience - what should you expect to make hourly as a RN charge in LTC?

thanks

Gesh....that depends on what area you are in.

It really varies from place to place. The average RN starting rate around here in LTC is between 20 and 22 dollars per hour with maybe 50cents more for charge. Some places will pay more for more experience, but not all of them.

I started working in LTC in 1982 at the best paying facility around here. RN's made $8.00 per hour. I went from there to the hospital and made $10.57 as charge on 3-11 and thought I was "bucks up".

The LTC I work in gives the LPN $1.00/hr more if she is charge but if your an RN, you don't get anything extra. Charge nurse is over 120 bed skilled and ICF/DCF, also takes calls from the Assisted Living building and Retirement Living building. LTC in the rural area I work in pays quite a bit less than working in a Hospital also.
