How much does any LPN who works in upstate New York make an hour working in a nursing home passing meds?

Move to Las Vegas!!

I am an L.P.N. and currently make 17.25 an hour and shortage is so bad I have been given M.D.S. coordinator position at 20 bucks!!!

regular l.p.n. starts at around 16 bucks with bonus.

I am an LPN of 2 years, working for an Orthopedic Surgeon, as his clinic nurse and scrub in and assist him in surgery such as; Totat Joint Replacements, ORIF/CRIF, amputations, Carpal Tunnel Releases, etc. I earn $10.91/hr no benefits (after raise). I have also worked in a LTC and made about $1.50 less. New grad LPN's make approx $9.30/hr. Options of change are extremely limited in this rural western part of South Dakota. The cost of living does not reflect upon the wage either. Average mid-west cost of living on peanuts for pay. I want to get my ASN but when other RN's with 20+ yr experience make $13/hr and fresh RN grads are starting out at $12/hr...where is the reward in going back to school and adding another school loan to my list of bills? This is a great place to raise my son, and my husband has a secure good job, that he would not want to leave. So my options stagnate. frown.gif

Come on down to NC. I'm a LPN in a Long term care facility where I've been for the past 15 yrs. I make 17.00/hr,$1.50 shift differential. Also if we work an extra shift we get pool pay @$25.00. They treat us pretty good if you ask me.

I'm in Ohio. Make 13.10/hr in LTC. I wor 8 hrs and get paid for 8, Every miutes after is time and a half. Holidays and brithdys are double time. If you work 12 hrs and come back the next scheduled shift that shift is also time and a half. I made $32,000. last yr 4 days a week and picking up extra shifts and doubles. We get raises 2 x/yr and bonuses every 3 months. I LOVE MY JOB!! I LOVE MY JOB!!

WOW I CAN'T BELIEVE THE BASE PAY THAT YOU ARE MAKING! I AM FROM MASSACHUSETTS, NORTH OF BOSTON, AND MY BASE PAY IS 17.80 WITH 1.25 SHIFT DIFFERENTIAL AND 3.00 MORE AN HOUR ANY SHIFT ON THE WEEKEND! I THINK IT'S TIME FOR A JOB CHANGE! YOUR WORTH MORE THAN THAT!

I was an LPN in long term care passing meds. We just got a raise- from 9.57 up to 10.05. Passed meds for 40 residents. Left there to go to hospital...telemetry floor now making 11.88 with 1.55 night dif. I have been an LPN for 10 years and now we're moving out of NY. Can't afford to live here any more.

Just passing through here and I see that someone quoted me from another board. I feel I must add...just recently I recieved a call from a local VA hospital. They want me to come work for them on the Med/Surg floor! I just got done complaining of "no" options, and here one rings at my phone out of the blue! (He works in mysterious ways.) smile.gif I am currently in the wage negotiation stage and took the time to investigate this opprotunity. They offer a $400 sign on for clothes, or whatever. After one year of employment they offer to pay for and pay me to get my RN. As my previous post states...I earn $10.91/hr, no benefits, etc. The VA initially said they would give me $12.00/hr starting with shift diff and full bennies. I am bargaining for .50 more...what the heck...might as well go for it!

I love my job as a physicians nurse in the clinic atmosphere, and also assisting in surgeries for the OR experience. I have been nursing for 2 years and concurrently was the only Ortho/Urology/Triage Nurse for the clinic. I have created protocols, forms, and fill in ANYWHERE the need be. (Internal Med, OB/GYN, Surgery, Reception)

When I approached my doc with the news of a new job opprotunity, I wanted to give him and the clinic a chance to keep me, before I walked out the door. As I see it, I am their investment and it is within their best interest to keep me. But his response was, "You will never be replaced, and all that you have given to my practice and patients can never be matched. But I know this place won't offer you a penny more. Look out for you, and if you have the chance to further your education, do it." Well then...so I am awaiting to hear back from the VA DON as to what the "board" decided on my wage. The down side is shift, holiday and weekend work, and the longer drive. But the pay is worth it, not to mention the floor exp, and education opps. So I guess there are avenues for those that are dedicated and work their a** off! ha ha. It is a compliment they sought me out, there are some that have their applications in for years and never get hired! Well, time will tell. Lord grant me strength, wisdom, and courage for decisions/changes that lay ahead.

I just took a job for 19/hr day shift. I'll do some pm shifts for 20/hr. It's at a conv. hospital. I'm a new grad. I was working at an acute care hosp. and liked it, but it was much less money. I can't pass on $19. Considering I have only 18 months invested in school, I don't think that's too awful of a wage.

I have been an LPN for 25 years. When I stopped traveling and took a post at a long term care facility in my home town (Kalispell,Mt.)I started at 10.91 an hour. After my 3month probation I recieved a raise to 11.04 an hour and after one year I am making 11.39 an hour. I have pretty good benies health ins.,good vaction comp time, sick time fund and after 2years a retirement plan. It was hard to give up the 14.00 plus I earned on the road but I have a day shift postion and some great co-workers. I have an awesome DON and unit supervisor. The feeling at my facility is one of family (for real) .I think though that our type of facility is probably a dying breed. I work hard but I am given a lot of leeway in leading my mini team and that is very satisfying. Thanks for the kudos to us LPN's from the facilitator at this site. I feel that we often serve in much the same capicity as RN's with much less recognition. The nursing shortage is only going to get worse so we need to be good to each other. After all we are all in the trenches together! My love to all of you caring people you are making a differnce.

I am from upstate New York and work for a wonderful facility. I am an LPN and I have been at my current facilty for more then 5 years. The starting pay for LPN's at our facility is around $12.75. However, the paycheck is not all of it. Be sure to check out the benefits. I have wonderful bennies - nice vacation time, sick time, holidays and a good health insurance plan that is nicely priced. I have noticed that some places in the area are currently offering 12 hours shifts.......just think you, only work 3 days a week. All in all not to bad.

It disgusts me how unappreciated the nursing profession is in some areas. Some of you that have posted are receiving great wages for an LPN, but the rest of you are getting the shaft. I can't believe some of you don't get paid more for the hard work that you do. I can really understand why people change careers or relocate.

I work as a CNA in IL. The average starting salary is 8-9 dollars/hr. I work in a higher paying hospital and my base rate is $12.75/hr plus 10% afternoon differential and 15% midnight differential. Full benefits are given to those who work 20 hrs or more and anything over 8 hrs is time and a half (even without a 40 hr wk).

I'm not sure what LPNs in IL make, but the average starting salary is 17-20 dollars per hour for a RN (this is for a new grad).

The one place not to work is Indiana. A RN there only starts at $15/hr and CNAs only make around $7/hr. I don't know how much the LPNs make.
