Hi kids...

my dilemma....i have a 7 yr old dashchund. she's crate trained...house-broken....so what do i do for my 12's? i pray she can last a 8-hour day (cause damn knows i cant). what do y'all do? a dog walker? can you recommend any that wont rob you blind?

You have to get a dog walker. There's really no other choice. Leaving a dog crated for 12+ hours is cruel.

I'm a BIG believer in crates but 12+ hours is over the top.

Even 8+ hours straight is a lot...

It's not the best of all possible worlds, obviously, but there are "blue pads" for dogs, and you can train them to use the pads in a particular spot on the floor -- and then just dispose of the pads when you get home.

Dog walker...

Other than that, leaving a dog locked up in a studio for 12 hours at a time is downright criminal.

I have a westie-poodle and worked 12 hours - used the blue pads without a problem. Works best for small dogs as the mess is limited. I set up an area in the kitchen and cordoned it off with baby gates. Worked well - she has food, water, her crate and the blue pads.

Hire a dog walker or sitter. That's a long time to be indoors and dogs really need fresh air.

Some people I work with take their dogs to doggie day care. They have cameras so you can check up on the dog during the day (if you have time!).
