24 hour day care

I haven't heard of a 24-hour daycare, but I wanted to offer you a suggestion of what I plan on doing.

I am married, but my husband is generally gone 4 to 6 days per week overnight for travel, and he is self-employed. That leaves me taking care of the children by myself...I have a family member to watch them during the day, but she has her own kids in the evenings when they get home from school. On top of that, chances of me getting my first nursing job around here and working days only, is nil.

What we are planning on doing, is finding a college student to basically come around 5:30...I'll have dinner ready when she gets here, to just get the twins ready for bed, nighttime snack, etc. Then she has the rest of the evening to study. We have an extra bedroom, that we would like to set up for her...I would get home the next morning in plenty of time for her to get up and go to an 8:00 a.m. class.

This would work if the twins are in school or not. I ran this by a few college students I'm going to school with now (as they are much younger than me) and if the girls thought this would be a "weird" job assignment....all of them were very enthusiastic and said that it sounded like a great deal. You are pretty much getting paid to sleep and study.

Raleigh, North Carolina has several 24 hour day care centers. currently I am a nursing student and my kids attend daycare on 2nd shift. At first it required alot of adjusting but I take their nightclothes with them they change there, brush teeth and when I bring them home I carry them straight to bed. Baths in am but it works for now. Good Luck and remember anything worth having is worth working for even if it means making a little adjustments in the mean time.

What is the going rate for day care in Raleigh? Do they charge extra for night or weekend shifts? This is really interesting because I have been thinking about moving to the Raleigh/Durham area. I am terrified of having to spend my whole paycheck on daycare.

My children go to a home daycare actually her prices are cheaper than center. She is qualified, Cpr, first aid, etc, etc, I know that wake co childcare has a list of all daycares and price ranges through out wake co. I do not know the number but look it up I believe they are located in garner, nc they could give you a wealth of info on quality childcare, survey reports and all. BEST WISHES

Sorry about the delay in answering your post. I wouldn't pay by the hour...come up with a daily rate that is comparable to daycare. Keep in mind, that the student is benefiting as well, and the student most likely to take that type of job will just need a little extra money, and not depend on it to pay bills etc.

Can you give me a ballpark figure? I am not trying to get too personal. I just want to know what might be a fair price to pay per shift without breaking my pockets.

I would probably pay someone anywhere between $25 and $35 an evening. This will depend on your area.

I don't live in the Triangle, so someone who lives there will know more than I do. I've been researching the area with the plan of moving to Durham this summer. I've got a 6 yr old and a newborn.

They have a network of care providers, discounts at area child care centers, a babysitting guide--it looks pretty cool. Plus, I hear the Durham county school system is one of the best, if not the best, in the state. Check out the Choice Program!

I would probably pay someone anywhere between $25 and $35 an evening. This will depend on your area.

I would have KILLED for a job like this when I was in college. I would have stayed in the dorms and not bothered trying to get an apartment (the dorms back then were awful; no AC and the heat was barely adequate on a semi-cold night, never mind the freezing ones).

This would have been a PIE JOB. $35 tax free a night? Heck, can I come work for you while my husband is overseas? :-)
