Thanks for the helpful information that was posted. It seems to me that North Dallas is the first choice followed by East Dallas to live. Does anyone know of good hospitals within that area??? Any reccomendations? Thanks to anyone who is willing to help!!!

a) Parkland Hospital
b) Medical City Dallas
c) Baylor Dallas
I don't really know the reputations of these hospitals. All I know is that they are in the area you have mentioned. Parkland Hospital has historical significance since that's where JFK was rushed to after he was assasinated on the Motorcade in 1963.
Also, click on the link to look at the list of DFW hospitals.

Adding to The Commuter's list:
1) Medical City Dallas
2) Presbyterian Hosp Dallas
3) RHD Memorial (actually in Farmer's Branch I think)
4) Trinity Medical Center (in Carrollton)
5) Richardson Regional
6) Doctor's Hospital (is it still open?)
Then there's 3 in Plano, 1 in Lewisville, 2 in Frisco, 1 in Allen, & 1 in McKinney.
Plenty of places to work. It just depends on what type of commute you prefer!

Doctor's Hospital is more East than North. It is still open but things have been pretty dicey for the last few years or so. Saw the same job openings come up over and over. Problems with docs and lawsuits. Had to shut down some depts r/t lack of $. Looked at them a few years ago - wasn't impressed. Salary was poor for my experience and they weren't interested in discussing the job I was interested in, they kept pushing me to take one particular job that they felt was best suited to me after they looked at my resume after I repeatedly told them I had no interest in that position. Also had quite a few patients complain about things that were going on there, and the complaints all matched up even though the patients didn't know that someone else had already been complaining.

Not mentioned yet: St. Paul & Zale Lipshy, which are both affiliated with UT Southwestern Medical school. These two hospitals, along with Parkland and Baylor are all located near downtown Dallas, so they aren't really considered North Dallas hospitals. Medical City & Presbyterian are the furthest north of the ones listed so far. I think Presbyterian and Baylor also have other locations that are in the suburbs north of Dallas, I believe.
Aside from having historical significance, Parkland is the county hospital in Dallas, so you'll see pretty much everything there. It would be a wonderful place to work (along with the UT Southwestern hospitals) if you want to learn a lot.

I am not a nurse yet, but I work for an agency that staffs nurses in Dallas. I can tell you from what I hear from my nurses and from what I experience dealing with nurse supervisers.
Once I do become a nurse here is where I will consider going. I have heard nothing but good reports back about Centennial in Frisco, Presbyterian of Plano and Presbyterian of Allen. Baylor Garland is ok, so is Baylor Plano.
I have heard issues about both Methodist Dallas and Charlton Methodist. RHD has alot of issues and their managers can be very rude. Doctor's Hospital has gotten better. I used to have lots of complaints about Doctor's Hospital but recently I think things have gotten better.
We used to do alot of staffing at St. Paul/Zale but lately they haven't had many agency needs. I think that could be a very good thing and in my opinion is a plus. They must be doing something right to keep their nurses and not need agency so much.
I also know several nurses who work part-time for us and then also work full-time at Parkland and they love it there. It can be tough but a very rewarding experience.
There are TONS of hospitals in the North Dallas area and trust me you will not ever have a hard time finding work.
Now East Texas on the other hand, well your choices are more limited. At one point in 2007 the hospital in Tyler was going to close but last I heard they are keeping the doors open.
I would come to Dallas. The pay is good. For an agency nurse we pay LVN's mid-high 20's and RN's get in the 30's. We have some ICU/ER RN's making a little over $40. It all depends on the facility and what dept you are working.
Hope that helps. If you have any questions let me know and I will try to help!!
