Hospitals in Hawaii

Let me put it this way...in my experience (but not at Queens, although I've heard it was the same), I hope to never get sick or injured here. I have, however, ran across a few good nurses.

Hi, um i am a nursing student and recently i have heard of travel nursing. i guess your a travel nurse. so i was wondering if you can give me some information on it. oh and why not St. Francis :)

Look at the post. He "heard it through the grapevine." That deserves no credibility at all. I lived in Hawaii for 25 years and worked in several of the hospitals. It's just like any other major city. There are good and bad experiences. Honolulu attracts some of the best and brightest healthcare workers, and some of the worst. Here's the bottom line: You can do anything for 6 months! Go try it!

Worked at Kapiolani and the people were wonderful! Heard from some nurses who worked Tripler that loved it, others thought it was awful. Agree that you make your own paradise or the opposite to a large degree. Friend worked at Kaiser and thought it was great. Don't know anyone who worked Queen's.

I want to travel in Hawaii, but the two agencies I'm with never have anything there.(Fastaff and PHP) any suggestions on agencies that have alot of assignments there? any idea of the pay scale? I would appreciate "any" info.

I am interested in finding out any good or bad info on the hospitals on Oahu. I am an ICU nurse, but may have to do Stepdown to get over there (per my recruiter). My company does not have a contract with Queens Medical Center-does anyone know who does? Thanks.....

What agency do you work for? I would love to travel there.

Intelistaff has contracts with most of the hospitals, including Queens. Travelers are referred to as flyers and travel assignments are hit or miss depending on your specialty and the hospitals budget. I spent 6 months at Queens in the ER and loved every minute of it.

You have to take the good with the bad.

Honolulu is just a big city that happens to be in paradise, it is frought with all of the negative things that any other large city has, homelessness, traffic (unbelievable trafiic), etc.. But, it is the only American city with ALOHA.

I found healthcare to be both ahead and behind the mainland in a lot of ways. They have a different way of doing things in the islands whether its healthcare, or whatever. So fly on over, put on your slippas, have a Mai Tai or two, and enjoy the way its done local kine.
