  1. 2 weeks for ours
  2. we just got this system, after trialing 2 closed systems...i feel it's bulky and can introduce micro bubbles. hte idea of a closed system is great but i'd still like to see other systems
  3. I actually work at Packard...its a 40 bed nicu, with ecmo. I was in the Versant program 3 years ago, not sure how many openings would be coming up in the next group...feel free to pm me with any specific questions. Otherwise there may be opening in our lower level units where you cuold train get adjusted and them move up to level 3. If you have any NICU experience (final semester preceptorship or something similar, that would really help as we are a very fast paced busy nicu) PA is very expensive to live in and around...depending on how far you are willing to travel you cna find more reasonable areas. I do know people who bike pretty much all year but there are some very rainy cold days which would not be fun to get to work in. Many things to do around the area, outdoorsy, fine arts etc. Bay area in general is very expensive so pay is fairly well adjusted for the c.o.l. HTH:)
  4. Tripler has a small nicu, maybe like 16 beds. It's a nice unit, not very conducive to the needs of preemies especially. As far as the assignment, if you want to travel to Hawaii go for it! But although tripler is known as one of the "top" army hospitals, there are a lot of very scary things that happen there. My husband is in the military stationed in Hawaii and I went to nursing school there also, so I have been inside tripler as a patient and on the other side of the spectrum. If you do take the assignment just be VERY careful and make sure not to lower your nursing standards because you will see a lot of things that are not appropriate. It is your license! I guess the most recent horrible story (that made it public, because there are hundreds that don't make it public) out of Tripler was the C/S baby last year who was given CO2 instead of O2 for like 40 minutes after delivery. Yeah nobody caught on that the baby was not improving because somehow the bag got hooked up to the wrong tank in the OR...until 40 minutes later. Needless to say the baby had a very poor outcome and last word was a major lawsuit was pending. I'm sure you can find more by googling the story. On the outside it's easy for people to say how great Tripler is, but from the perspective of someone whose family has received care there...I would not recommend putting your license at risk. Every hospital has its share of mistakes but so many out of Tripler are pure negligence that it is scary. Sorry if I put a damper on your plans, but if you are really set on Hawaii, maybe you could check for a travel assignment in the NICU @ Kapiolani
  5. They were also really nice to me, the lady said I would be "happy" once I get my mail so I'm not stressing out about it. It just would be nice to finally get my real license. It's a bummer that it takes so long...I guess that's why they issue IP's in CA, huh...lol :rotfl:
  6. congrats!! i'm still waiting of course, i need to call again and see how long these darn fingerprints take. i took it 2/24...ca brn is a pain in the butt!!
  7. if you are in california, good luck....i took my test on 2/24 and still haven't recieved anything because they have not processed my fingerprints yet, the BRN said it could be another 3-4 weeks until anything posts. depending on the state though this may be different.
  8. You should be very happy that people are watching out for you. When I was pregnant with my daughter I helped lift a patient to a standing position (with proper body mechanics mind you) and I nearly miscarried at 14 weeks. From then on I had times of bedrest due to bleeding. DO NOT LIFT while you are pregnant. Although some people never have problems, your child is not something you want to take a chance with. It is always better safe than sorry!! Don't let anyone tell you any different, if you don't feel comfortable doing it, don't do it. :angryfire Oh yeah, congratulations on your pregnancy :balloons: :balloons: !!!
  9. No there is nothing, isn't that horrible....the board said it could be 3-4 weeks until they process my fingerprints and post. I think it is a big joke that it takes that long especially when they were sent in early January and here we are in March...it will be until April probably until I get any results. When I do I'll post for sure!!!
  10. I just called the board's number and if you press #2 ...2times...it will either be busy or it will put you on hold for a good 10minutes or more. If it's busy just keep calling back, once you are through you just have to be patient and wait. Most likely there is a hold up with your record.(transcripts fingerprints etc.) Good luck and keep me filled in!!
  11. oswonghk...the brn here is so much different than where I came from last...after a week I actually called them to see if there was a holdup for some reason...turns out my fingerprints haven't been filed and it could be another 3-4weeks. the board cannot tell you if you passed or not (they do have the results) but the person I spoke to was very reassuring :) . call them and see if there is some reason your file isn't complete. it sounds just like my test pretty much...and with 70% on kaplan you should be fine, i only got 68 on the last 265test on the trainer. good luck and let us know how it goes!!!
  12. My husband is in the military stationed in HI...I just recently graduated nursing school and had a clinical or two at this hospital, as was my father an inpatient. Let me tell everything about Tripler...in the Army they are regarded as one of the best hospitals...this is far from the truth!! There are many sad stories that come out of this hopsital but this is by far the worst I've heard of. Tripler, or crippler as it is known on the island has a reputation for being a place you do not want to have any procedures done. I have not only seen these things first hand, I have been affected by them also (my father went into anaphylactic shock and subsequent renal failure after being giveen a new antibiotic iv and not being reassessed for over an hour or two after. By this time his blood pressure was down around the 50's systolic). Although I do understand that mistakes happen this hopsital should be shut down after so many incidents like this. Hopefully the media attention will bring JCAHO in to reevaluate this place. Come on, with so many people in the room with something of this nature going on, and nobody realized until they put up a new tank?? Why was the mask even attached to a CO2 tank anyway?? :angryfire By the way tripler does have a level 2-3 nicu but they also do not have the staffing to meet their needs nor is the nicu a "palace". It has been a very sad few days in Hawaii since this report came out...everyone is talking about how something of this nature could happen. I hope the family pursues it to every extent possible although nothing or no amount of $ will ever get rid of the pain or hurt that will be with them the rest of their lives. So sad. 13. Shaggie, thanks so much for your response...the suspense was killing me so I called the BRN and she said they are in the process of filing my fingerprints which I did with the hard copy...she said after that (3-4weeks) everything will be completed and it should go up or I should get my license. What a relief that it wasn't me but it was a mistake with the board. Thank god...I just hope I pass for sure!!
  14. Has anyone taken the NCLEX in CA anytime after 2/24 and gotten their results?? I took it on the 24th and nothing is posted on the BRN website (although it is currently not responding). I'm dying here...had 75q's and I want to know already. If you have taken it anytime after the 24th please let me know when and if or when you find out your results. Thank you so much!!
