Hospitals in Bluffton, Ft. Wayne region

Published

My family is investigating a relocation to the midwest, specifically Indiana. I sometimes feel like I am searching for a needle in a haystack and am looking for some input from those that are living/working in that area currently. Where are the facilities of the definite 'stay away from at all cost' variety as well as the places offering decent work environments. Thanks in advance :-)

Hi NAB,

Thanks for you comments, I do want to hear as many perceptions of the areas we are looking at as possible. The town we live in now has a pop. of about 77,00 and is part of a greater metro area of 3 cities. The particular area we live in is still a nice place to live, but the other 2 towns are more "urban" and that influence is seeping into our area. There are a lot of things I like about it, the cost of living is not one o them. Our wages have not kept up with the COL increase as we are getting a lot of NY and NJ people relocating to Pa and driving up the real estate prices along with everything else.

We are looking for a slower pace, smaller town-more family oriented communities and so on and so forth...I am not naive as to think the mid-west is untouched by crime and drugs but I do hope that it hasn't reached the proportions that the east coast has seen in recent years.

I know that I can get a lot more house/community/school for my money in Indiana than in pa just from the research I have done.

I have interviews in FW as well as Carmel outside of Indy, I am nervous about being close to Indy but I have read good things about the towns surrounding it so hope to settle there if I work for Clarian; same goes for FW if I get the Dupont job- I hope to settle outside the city limits.

We have been using city-data.com for a lot of our info, they have great statistics and forums that are helpful.

CC nurse--my sister lives down near fishers right next to carmel... WONDERFUL area...but more costly than the FW area, unless you look into Noblesville---right on the edge of Fishers and if I am correct, my neice and nephew go to the Fishers schools. The taxes in Noblesville are much cheaper than those in Fishers/Carmel.

But I do love those areas, and you would then be closer to more that Indy has to offer. Including some wonderful hospitals like Riley. Methodist is also a great hospital.

racing-mom4, you made me LOL, and I've decided to stay out of those neighborhoods, and not buy drugs, ha-ha! Yes, I agree, there are some good places to work, visit, shop, and eat in Fort Wayne. cc_nurse, sounds like you're checking it all out, talking to people, etc. My sis lives in Indy/Speedway, and has for 35 years, and I've visited, and stayed many, many times. If you live outside Indy, be sure to ask about traffic difficulties in and out of the city during crunch times. Unfortunately, "urban seepage" is happening everywhere, big and small towns alike, so I don't guess we can escape it. My daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren live in inner-city Chicago. My oh my, I have never liked them living there, but they have managed to survive and thrive, so there ya go!

Hi Racing-Mom

Its funny that you said that, we had looked at Carmel/Fishers RE and were unpleasantly surprised :imbar But I have read several posts that have mentioned Noblesville in a positive light so I'm glad to hear it from you too. I still would prefer the FW region but Clarian North has the NICU position as opposed to the L&D one...I figured we could settle mid-way and I would be able to keep my eyes open for Parkview or something.

How bad do you see Indy area being? The crime index was pretty high so that did make me nervous, but it would be the same distance roughly as we are to Philadelphia now so I figured the influence wouldn't spread that far (hopefully...)
