I can't tell if they are really going to go through with this or are just trying to get more money from the government by calling their bluff on funding:

It could be a bit of both. But they seem to think that they can eliminate these nurses by not filling vacancies, rather than by laying people off. Because human resources represents the single largest line item in any health care budget, it's always the target of choice for cost savings, and they always cut from the bottom, rather than from the top. They could save a lot of money if they cut out a couple of layers of bureaucracy, but that never presents itself as a solution because it's the top that makes the decisions.
What alarms me is that the Rouge Valley Hospital already has the 5th highest mortality rate in the GTA. Cutting their nursing staff will only make that worse.

I am so sad to hear this. It really bothered also to read how few management positions were being deleted. Seems like something is rotten in Denmark.

Different country same problem!
Just like here in the UK the NHS cut nursing positions & not the "shiny bums" (our term for managers who sit on their you know what getting their trouser rear's nice & shiny in the process) who truly waste resources!
The result - increased mortality, morbidity & infection rates! Where's the saving in that?

That be no good. Hope it doesn't come to Nova Scotia, I'm just getting my feet wet and been through a lot already. Penny wise pound foolish.
