Hospitalist

I know that there is a thread to how much you make, but I was wondering how much I should be paid. I work with a hospitalist group. I work at only one hospital and I get paid per patient. Based on if it's a follow up, H&P or discharge. I am a new nurse practitioner however, I am being asked by other physicians if I will work with them too. I do not know what I should be asking for. I am an independent contractor and with this one group I feel I am being low balled. So what should I be asking for?

I wish I had a good answer. I work with a hospitalist group and see their diabetic patients or others who require insulin drips during surgery. I am salaried and my number of patients varies so much I have no way to determine what that would equate to on a per-patient basis. I am pretty sure I am underpaid but my options are very limited unless I move to a different area, which is not an option for my husband's work situation.

TJFRN,

I hope you found a job that you like as a new NP.

I am a NP student myself here in south Florida, and was wondering where you were able to do your clincals?

Thanks for your input
