I am an on-site OHN. I work with OHN's within the hospital frequently. Do you know what your role will be? (case management vs hands on) I can advise more once that is established. Good luck!

It will be a hands on role. Thank you!

In this scenario, it won't be much different than assisting an MD or NP in an urgent care situation. It will be highly involved with ortho and imaging. You will likely be calling in a lot of referrals. I imagine you will triage the patients as they come in. Familiarize yourself with work comp law in your state. Get to know the HR staff for your client companies. Find out how you can best serve them. Work comp is a strange beast in that most large companies are self insured, meaning that they are fitting the bill. It is a direct pay to the hospital and more often then not, the rate of reimbursement is much greater than insurance and especially medicare. What this means is that they are your customer and should be treated as such. I have seen occ health clinics treat on site medical or HR like idiots because of a disagreement, or act like they don't have time for something because their time is so precious. The company then gets a new provider. It happens a lot actually. Just understand that they are your customer, and bust out some customer service.

Learn your P&P, work comp laws, and what makes injuries OSHA recordable. If an associate can get steri strips and have just as good an outcome as sutures, limit the recordability for your client.

Thank you, this definitely helps!

Wondering if you got the job? I recently started in my hospital as their OHN

Hey! How are you liking your job? I have an interview tomorrow for an OHN position at a hospital and am new to the field. Just wondering what to expect for my day to day routines. I have seen a mix of different things and wasn't sure if I would be dealing with patients hands on or more of the paper work side of things. :)
