I have really started to dread going into work each morning, my 12 hour shift usually turns into 14-15, I hardly get a lunch break and maybe have time to use the bathroom twice. I really love nursing and caring for people but I just cannot do this to myself for much longer, especially when my husband and I start a family. I am looking for other nursing jobs beside hospital nursing that people really enjoy, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Maybe you need a different facility. I left ER to go to home health and am now interviewing for another ER, better facility. Home health can be very rewarding, but it just wasn't for me; and may not be for you if you LOVE acute care, as I do. Good luck either way you go!!!
Home health is VERY NICE for family though.
HOw are you feeling today amybsn?

Talk to your facility about shifts shorter than 8 hours. To me it sounds as if this is some of the cause of the problem. Here the 12 hour shift is rare and from what I read on this board we just might be making a dreadful mistake by introducing them.
