I have applied for Florida Hospital and have done three interviews but have received no longer under consideration. Is it hurting me telling the Nurse Manager my career goals to get my BSN and I am applying as a PCT to further my skills while in school completing my prerequisites. I don't know what I am doing wrong? Florida Hospital is the company I want to work for and retire at.

Well in Georgia I just got hired as a tech and I got my job because I am in nursing school and have been in clinicals for class. Do you think they want you in the program already? I've never worked in a hospital before now. Did they give any specific job requirements? I know some places would rather take a CNA or a person with recent PCT experience but it just depends. Also could you contact them and ask why they did not consider you? I definitely don't think it's because you want to pursue nursing, they love to hear stuff like that. I wasn't even hired yet and my interviewers(now managers) were already telling me about nurse extern programs they offer in my department.
I also just got my CNA license in December and it's been two months at my current job at an assisted living, I don't know if that also is a factor but I am going to email the Nurse manager to see why and get pointers to correct anything. I already am in with HR but the Nurse Manager interviews are not getting through.

I can't be certain, but I think having less than a year's experience is a big factor in not you not getting hired. Going to school for nursing prerequisites is a good thing. I worked in LTC as a CNA for 1.5 years, and close to finishing my 2nd semester of LPN program, before I was hired as a PCT. It's tough getting in, but keep pushing. There are CNAs in the LTC I worked at that applied several times over several years but haven't even gotten an interview. What made me different is I'm in a nursing program with clinical experience. During the interview she asked my, "Why should I hire you when you'll be done with the LPN program in less than a year?" Having an LPN license excludes you by law from working as a PCT (and hospitals don't have LPN positions where I'm from). She knew I did my homework and was motivated to stay at the hospital when I said that I plan on working at the hospital as an ER Tech or Critical Care Tech, which requires either an EMT-B licence or an LPN license, while continuing my education online to receive an RN license.
I kept applying and the first nurse that rejected me for the position ended up hiring me and I didn't have to do a second interview. It is tough to get in, I wanted to give up and thought maybe something was wrong with me. I'm glad with the support of my family and friends I kept applying and going to interviews and I guess that determination is what got me in. It's better for us to already be in the hospital setting while getting our RN so we can show our work ethic and hiring from within is less stressful being a new nurse applying to the company.
