So I just got word yesterday that the hospital will possibly sell to a "large" hospital system by this Friday. No clarity was given what would happen should the purchase fall through as administration stated that the deal was still being negotiated but the impression made was that if the buyout does not happen the hospital would CLOSE !!

The hosptial has been going through a rough time financially the last few years. I've been there less than a year but really enjoy working with many of my peers, especially my boss. Everyone is panicking at work.

Small talk has gone missing. The thing on everyone's mind and the only discussion is "Will we have a job after Friday?"

Administration had been pushing "Meeting or exceeding productivity numbers" the last few months. Gee, now I know why. :angryfire Everyone was kept in the dark about the hospital being "shopped around" for a buyer. I know it's only business but I feel decieved. It's a tragedy when the business that carries the heaviest expectation for transparency, honesty and practicing in an ethical manner display a deliberate disregard for those core values.

Hi,

I know where you're coming from. Several years ago, the hospital I work for was bought out by a large health corp. We didn't find out about it until we were called into meetings and basically told, "Guess what, you now have new owners and a new name." This was after decades of being owned by the same catholic system. We were in shock. Things went pretty smoothly though and the transfer was pretty much seamless.

It would be a shame if your hospital closed, with the way healthcare is, we need every available bed possible. I wish you the best, and hope things get better. The way I see it adm didn't want to let out on the secret because they really can't afford a mass exodus while they're still operating.

Oh, BTW we'll be more than happy to make room for you here if you don't mind the heat.;)

You wouldn't be referring to St. Josephs in downtown Houston?

Heat? Nah, don't mind it at all. Keeps the heating bill low. :twocents:

No I'm WAY further south than that.

I work for a hospital the acquire the famous Elizabeth General Medical Center in January of 2000 and the majority of the nursing staff on my unit came from the general and they say it was hard for them to transition to the new company.

One RN told me the first day in the new facility she went into the clean utility room and cried, but then again every experience is different and I hope yours is as pleasant as it could possibly be.

Better to sell than to try to operate without sufficient funds and become a death trap like some other small hospitals I know. When the facilities cannot pay the bills, things like supplies and nurses disappear and it truly becomes dangerous to be a pt or an employee in those hospitals.

I would've thought someone would have wanted to buy it out, unless it was too much of a mess, or too much $$ would have to be poured into upgrading the facility.

I've lived through a facility closing, and it's no fun. You should be able to draw unemployment until you find something else. It probably won't be what you were making but it does help.

Even if things weren't always great there, it's almost like losing a friend or family member. You go through a grief process.

Good luck in finding something else soon.
