Ok so I am at my second travel assignment and have a contract at a facility and have been working there for 6 out of 13 weeks. I received a phone call from my agency that the facility has cancelled my contract due to low census. The agency I work for initially told me over the phone that I would be paid through the remainder of my assignment full 13 wks through Dec 08. Then I received a phone call 2hrs later from another rep from my travel company that the first info was wrong and I will only get 2wks paid and then will no longer be an employee of the Agency. They will try to find me a new position in those 2wks but after that I am on my own. What the Heck!! Can they really do this? I signed a contract and I am NOT the one who broke it and I am the one who gets screwed...seriously?? Anyone else have experience with this...what can I do.

Always get it in writing. Protecting yourself is important in the cut-throat world of health care. As Dr. House once said, "People lie."

You are reporting two different verbal stories. What does your contract say? Is there a two week notice clause?

Send an e-mail to your recruiter ASAP stating you will be paid the two weeks and may remain in their housing (if you took the 'free' apartment) during that time. Do not trust phone messages at this point. Everything must be in writing. I am sure this will work out for your greater good in the long run....very stressful now though,I know.

My contract only mentions the repracussions if I cancel not THEY or the Facility

You then have the option to sue for the balance of the contract. It can be done (I've done it), but it may not be worth the effort. Your contract may require arbitration for contract disputes, or that you may only file in the agency's home jurisdiction, which will certainly not be convenient.

6 weeks worked, plus a two week settlement, means that you are only talking about 5 weeks unpaid. If you go to work in the interim for anyone, that mitigates those 5 weeks of damages.

hello, sorry to hear what is happening to you. And, I think review your contract as well. i wanted to ask you something way off topic I am starting the lvn to bsn program here in california and if i read right you did it in phoenix right? can you give me an insight of how truly the classes are? what happens if you dont pass a class? and anything that can help me. i would appreciated it.
