Horrid clinical uniforms

Nursing Students Male Students

I have to take first place for the LAMEST clinical uniforms ever!

White pants, polo shirt and shoes (not bad). The worst part of the uniform is the vest! Its a long blue vest with many pockets. The horrid part of the vest is that it tapers at the waist and then flares out again. It looks like a combination of a dress and a bib. It makes me look pregnant.

I call it "birth control blue". Well...at least I don't have to wear a matching fanny pack.

So what does your clinical uniform look like?

Specializes in My first yr. as a LVN!.

OMG!!! Why in the world?!!! Their goal is to keep you in school not want you to run !!!! Anyway, Im sorry to hear that... theres no need for all that business when really, all you need is comfortable pants ( I prefer the low rise, flare bottoms) top and a lab coat. Dont know why you would need all that for a uniform! I got it easy... we have just the blue top and pants but I use my own pants that are more comfortable and no one complains about it since they are the same color of blue. And I swear by having a lab coat... no matter how hot it gets it keeps my pens, highlighter, alcohol swipes, gloves and sometimes my drug reference book... no way can one live w out the lab coat! Good luck w your uniform maybe they can be somewhat flexible?!!!

the usual all white "Good Humor Man" uniform.. don't know if we are taking care of patients or delievering ice cream. All white shoes, no color visible. Also, uniform pants were very thin and very much see through. Our zip up shirts, for the males, have a high choker collar. No matter if you ironed, starched, or whatever the collad did it's own thing. Left side would stand up, right side would curl under.

I'm just waiting for the day after labor day with my 100percent white uniform.

Specializes in ortho(med surg) and OB, mostly L&D.

ouch! that sounds horrible! sorry about that! ours were all white, white scrub top, white scrub pants, mandatory white shoes and white socks. of course i had to pay for all of it, and they turned from stark white to dingy yellow with stains all over them. the worst part was...i didn't own any white underwear believe it or not so i had to buy some..eventually no one cared and all the ladies wore their lovely visible victoria's secret underwear, how professional! plus, mine also had a million pockets, that i never used. everyone in the hospital that was affiliated with our school (loyola) had a different uniform in the institution. so everyday when we came in at yes 5:30 am, the security guard said...hey here come the nursing students again!

ya i own 0 white underwear, its all designer boxers; colorful to say the least.

Specializes in Day Surgery, Agency, Cath Lab, LTC/Psych.

Why on earth do they make nursing students wear all white!?!? It wouldn't be so bad if the pants were actually thick enough that we don't have to see the patterned underwear and boxers underneath, or the lack thereof. White uniforms should be permanently banned forever. Besides, white makes almost anyone look like they weigh more than they do.

Specializes in Med Surg - yes, it's a specialty.

The nursing class before mine wore the "bell" shirts - tapered princess seamed white long top with puff sleeves. Flared at the bottom. It had little inverted pleats at the shoulders so as they moved around the pleats would end up popped out looking like little wings. The shirts were trimmed in navy to accentuate the bell shape - haha. They eliminated them when I started.

For all those upset about their uniforms just look at what they used to wear. White dress, white hose and the CAP (dum da dum dum). Dress perfectly starched and ironed and white. White orthopedic shoes only. We've come a long way - even if you're stuck in dumb smock. I'm sure the fellers looked funny in the caps and hose (haha).

Specializes in Neonatal ICU (Cardiothoracic).
