Hi Everyone,
Don't hate me for saying this, but after reading some posts about everyone's nursing instructors being mean... I just wanted to say my instructors are awesome this semester! Lately I have been feeling very frustrated with the amount of busy work they give us, but at least they are very approachable and completely willing to sit down and help. I also like that they generally use very positive feed back to get us to learn/correct mistakes, and seem genuinely interested in teaching.
And to everyone who is miserable... there are only a few more weeks until the end of semester(:

There is a LOT of instructor-bashing on here, but I'm with you on this one. My instructors are great. I have no problem approaching any of them for help. My clinical instructor is one of the coolest people I've met and super helpful, just an overall great instructor. Of course there are bad instructors out there, just like any college program anywhere in the world, but I also think it has a lot to do with the student.

I have some really good teachers, also. I had a test in research that I didn't do well on. My teacher sat down with me one on one and we went through the questions I missed and she wanted to know why I chose the answer I did. She also explained why I was wrong.

I really enjoy 99% of my instructors too. Ironically the ones I like most are the ones I most often hear fellow students complaining about. We have and are having a lot of my favorite instructors leave our school last semester and this semester. Makes me glad I got through my program when I did. They will be truly missed!!!!!
The only teacher I don't like as much are a few that try way to hard to be everyone's friend and they let way to much slide.

Thanks for writing this. I'm hoping to get into nursing school next fall and some of the other posts I read about students hating their instructors and school have made me really worried! It's nice to see that not everyone feels that way :)

I have had 6 different instructors, 1 for each semester and they have all been fantastic. They have all been approachable, and professional mentors who I have been able to respect and base my practice on.

I also like my nursing instructors. I see a lot of my fellow students bashing one particular instructor in our program, and the reasons they appear to not like her are silly, in my opinion. A lot of students are young and just don't know how to deal with problems professionally, i.e. adapting to challenging situations and treating people with respect versus complaining and gossiping.

I agree with the burnout, and those bleeping papers, but hey, its only for a little while longer. The instructors at the school that I go to are very interested in getting us through the program. Of course if I hear one more time, "If you get through this semester," by 4th semester instructors(next semester) I am going to scream! grr...most of us know if we are going to be passing or not by now...

I'm obviously not a student anymore, but when I look back on nursing school I can honestly say that the vast majority of my instructors ranged from at least tolerable to EXCELLENT. The one bad experience I had was during senior year practicum and involved a nurse who was my preceptor at the hospital I was assigned to and not a university instructor.
I was actually thinking at work the other day about several instructors that I had that STILL inspire me. My very first clinical instructor was seriously one the kindest nurses I have ever met (and extremely knowledgeable, too!)...she was so patient with all of the silly questions that I'm sure the group of us had. Another instructor was super strict and ran our clinical group like it was a boot camp, but I learned to respect her intelligence and work incredibly hard. And guess what? She wrote several recommendations for me, including one that helped land my first RN position! There are other stories, too, but just wanted to let you all know that there are some good instructors out there-not just ones resulting in horror stories!

All of my instructors are wonderful as well and will do everything they can to help their students succeed. It is nice to hear about the good experiences others have had with their instructors. I thoroughly enjoy and love my nursing program.

I think just like in social situations you don't always click with a person, you're not always going to click with an instructor. It's human nature to sometimes automatically like/dislike someone. Unfortunately this goes both ways and if you're on the 'disliked' end by your instructor you may have problems.
On the other hand, if you don't like your instructor that can reflect on your behavior in that class and affect your success as well.
People need to ask themselves why they dislike so many of their teachers. I've noticed some students hate any teachers that assign a lot of homework..
