Hong Kong Advanced Practice Nursing

World Registration

Published

I am an American nurse, and I am considering a move to Hong Kong in January 2011. At that time I will have a MSN degree in nursing and would be seeking a position as a Nurse Practitioner/Advanced Practice Nurse. I have reviewed information on the internet about nursing in Hong Kong, but have only found info on RN licensing and jobs. Does anybody know if there will be ANY opportunities for a nurse with an advanced degree?? Can anybody point me in the right direction? Even the HK Nursing Council does not have info online about advanced practice nursing. I would also be interested in teaching.

I am grateful for any info anyone can provide.

Are the speakers here teach in chinese or in english?tnx

what speakers? do you mean invilators? they speak both

sorry .. i mean invigilator

Hello, everyone!

I also passed the written part of the licensure examination held on March 2012. I badly need information on the practical exam. What should I be studying/reviewing? Can anyone share their experiences with this part of the test? I really need help!

Also, I'll be going back to Hong Kong for the June exam. Anybody else here who is from the Philippines? I'm from Cebu. It would be great to know somebody else who would be taking the test as well. :)

hi Jessa, Im J from Davao, Phils. I would like to ask on how you apply to the Hongkong Nursing Council for the written and practical exam. I am so interested to apply. Did you send your documents through mail post or handed it to them personally? Please help..thank you.

Oh i see..so even if you pass both the written and practical they still would not accept you if your visa is a dh?what more if you dont even have experience and all you have are the licenses in the phils and hk?..just theoretically asking ehe...my employers are filipino and they know about my plans yet i still dont know if the hospital would approve to that..thank you..

Hi, I'm Rhona, I'm an RN-BSN from USA. I'm a newbee here in HK and trying to land an opportunity in HK in health care. Would anyone would like to comment on how are they doing on their RN license in HK since their last posts?

Would appreciate any insight.

Many thanks!

Hi hope you won't mind me asking the translation of a medical order with 1/52 or 2/24 etc written in it..i am still waiting for the result of my written exam and up to now im still curious about it in the english part..maybe there are 5 or so sentences with it so i leave them blank(hope i still answered the rest of the sentence anyway instead of just leaving it blank in case i might still got some few points haha..but i really thought at that moment i should translate the whole sentence perfectly to be able to get a single point)..

Hi Jessa,

I am also from Cebu. I have taken the NCHK written part for registered nurse in HK last March 2015 unfortunately I failed. May I know your methods of review for the written part and the practical part. I will be really appreciate if you could help me. I have been planning to retake the exam this comming March 2016.

I am a registered nurse in India, recently i had a call from an agency- they migrate nurses to Hong Kong and provide job assistance . they said that i could get job in any one hospital they are suggesting and i will have Skype interview after completing the viza processing .

I would like to know is that is it possible to get nursing job in any hospital in Hong Kong for an Indian nurse.if yes what are the criteria for that, either in government or in privet

Hi, I was wondering if you could help me. Im British but grew up in Hong Kong. I moved to New Zealand and while here I did my Bachelor of Nursing and became a registered nurse in 2009. I started working in theatre in public and now work in theatre in private. I have only ever worked in theatre and have no experience on the ward (I'm a theatre nurse through and through) I have seen the past exams but they are all ward based questions. Do I need to do these exams to work in theatre in a Hong Kong hospital? My husband and I are planning to move back to Hong Kong to be with family. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Goldeneyedeepu,

Sorry for late reply and I hope you are doing well. I am not sure which agency you were contacting with. But both private and government hospital in HK requires their nurses has registration in HK. I know some private company are welcome those nurses trained from overseas. If needed to work in government sector, HK license and Cantonese speaking is a must requirement.

Dear Meme,

Have you ever contact Nursing council in HK? They will assess your credential and guide you how to complete the registration process. If they ask you to take the exam, i think they will ask you to have practical exam and written exam (MCQ) and you can answer both exam in English. However, if you need to work in government hospital/ facility, you have to able to speak Cantonese.

But after you get your license, lots of private hospital has operation theatre jobs! no worries for job seeking indeed.
