Homeless working the system, multiple admissions

Published

What do you do with people that keep coming back every 2 weeks or some that think they are smarter by getting discharged from 1 hospital then going to another and saying the magic words.

As a society, what do we do with these people?

Yes, I agree that it is a huge waste of resources. I don't know what the answer is, other than getting involved in community efforts to reduce homelessness. These people are just trying to survive. What a shame. The

listen- no one has the right to judge. If you were homeless for a little while- you would most likely be right there with them trying to get admitted so you "can live like kings". Your problem is you think you are better than them and someone gave you the right to judge someone that you know nothing about. If you got to know them a little more instead of  sitting at you nurses desk and thinking how bad they were for trying to survive you would realize they are doing what they can to make it thru  another day. Maybe they are not as honest as you because you. are such a fine example of everything that is perfect in a human being but than again I have a feeling that you aren't as wonderful as you think you are either. I it can  take one thing happening to you,  which could lead to another thing and cause you to be homeless too and then you would learn how to survive anyway you could. The idea that nurses can not understand that shelter is a need and that people will do what they can to get it in order to survive makes me wonder what kind of nurses do we have out there? There are so many comments on these boards that show such lack of intelligence, compassion and common sense that if I felt the need to judge other people I would think all nurses were the most self centered, whiny, lazy, judgement, uninformed ***es that ever walked this planet. However I try not to judge people because I am no better than anyone and I realize that we are all just trying to survive here.Besides it's evident that you don't care about other people so what do you care if the hospitals admits homeless people? it's not like you are paying for it. Hospitals charge 1000 dollars a day for a room. So how does that make sense that they are losing money if a homeless person is in that room they are still making more money than if the room was empty. I think you forget that you would not have a job if you didn't have any patients. You are working to take care of patients but you act like they are working for you. Maybe instead of talking smack about your patients and whining because they are there- you should just put your nurse pants on and act like you are a real nurse instead of a whiny ***. oh I am sorry- I didn't mean to write that. it was just something I was thinking for a second. don't worry- I didn't mean that last part there.
