Hello, i'm in search of a Home Health agency and I am not sure if I should choose one that pays an hourly rate or that which pays by case. Can anyone tell me the benefits or negative of both and which you prefer?

I've only been paid hourly because I do shift work. One of my employers has quoted a visit rate if I ever do any of those. Most of the people who have posted about the difference have said that hourly pay is better than visit pay because of extra time (charting mostly) that is required for visits, that never gets reimbursed, and some visits take longer than the allotted time, but the agency only pays for the allotted time. I know if I am assigned an 8 hour shift I will be paid for 8 hours as long as I'm there for that length of time. I wouldn't want to be always trying to scrounge to get eight hours in one workday. With some looking, you can find where people have posted about pay per visit.

I only have experience with Medicare certified home care and in my area we are paid per visit. The visits rate varies depending on the type of visit. For example, a Start of Care (new patient) pays about 1 1/2 times the regular visit rate. I have never been paid by the hour in home care.

I am salary and at first when I was new to HH and working 50 hours a week, I was thinking twice about being salary. I've never had a non-hourly paid job before. Now that I have been there a while and am in a groove and managing to be come more efficient, I would say I generally work less than 40 hours a week. So, for me, salary is more pay for less work... until of course, they discover this and increase my productivity expectations just because.
