home health questions

Published

hi, I'm new here and have a few questions about HH. I read through the posts but couldn't really find what I was looking for. I've been an RN for 2 years now. I started out on a med/surg ICU floor and have spent the last 6 months working in a Trauma ICU. I would like to check out HH on a parttime basis and have gotten an offer from a company. They offered $35 per regular visit and 30cent per mile and stated that they would require 10 visits a week. From what I've read here the pay sounds about normal but I was trying to figure out what 10 visits translated into time wise. I realize some of it would depend on travel time but on average how many hours does 10 visits translate into? They made it sound like about 10 hours a week. Can I negotiate for the area of town I'm willing to travel to or the amount of area I'm willing to cover? How much support help do you usually get from home base if you run into something you're not sure how to handle? Thanks in advance for our help.

Well, guess I didn't look back far enough in the posts. I found a few that seemed to answer my questions. Found one about the company that wants to interview me and I might have to look elsewhere.

Specializes in OB, M/S, HH, Medical Imaging RN.

I get $60.00 for visits. No mileage reimbursement but can take the mileage off of my taxes. Visits take 15-30 min, Admits take about an hour, Recerts and Discharges 30-45 minutes. I am enjoying HH. I work only in my area of town. 6 hours work translates into $360.00, slightly more than I make on med/surg in 12 hours working my a** off. HH patients are glad to see you. A much more pleasant job! :)

P.S. Paperwork for 6 patients takes me about 2 hours at home.

Specializes in Vents, Telemetry, Home Care, Home infusion.

10 visits per week could mean ANTHING.

10 visits in ONE DAY? 5 visits/day 2days per week. New admits or revisits? Each agency seems to have it's own definition. Need to ask lot's of questions here.

I agree with the other posters...a visit for me can be anything from a 20 minute gt feed to a 2 hour admit (i do get 45 for the admit but 35 for all visit) some wound care pts take a full hour plus paperwork. travel can also be 5 minutes or 1 hour, depending on your area. i would ask for clarification from the mgr. good luck!!mary
