Hello all,

I've just accepted a position with Visiting Nurse Service after leaving the ICU, and I had a few questions:

First, does anyone know of good, relevant software for the Palm? I have Epocrates, but I'm wondering if there's any home-health-specific software.

Along that same line, what about any books, websites, or journals? I was a member of the AACN and would like to find something similar, but any searches I do come up with out of date things.

Second question: who uses GPS to plan their day? What system do you have? I can't read maps for the life of me, and right now I'm relying on Google Maps, but I'd rather have something I can take in the car with me.

The only Palm software I use is the Davis Drug Guide...use it all the time. And, yes, I do use a GPS..as I'm "directionally challenged!" LOL...

I have a Garmin Street Pilot, which I love. It does not have to be permanently mounted, so I can take it off, pop it into my glove compartment when I'm in a less than upscale neighborhood. I sure wasted a lot of time trying to read maps before I got it...and will never be without one again!:redbeathe

i have the rn skyscape software package installed on my os, and it is invaluable. i use it at least twice a day, sometimes more. as for gps systems, i have been mapquesting it for now but i am interested in hearing what others say about them.

I use a Tom Tom GPS. I don't know what I would do with out it!

I wish I had a Palm! I carry a small drug guide in the side pocket of my bag and use Mosby's Handbook of Patient Teaching at home for patient teaching ideas.

I have been using Microsoft MapPoint North America. It is amazingly accurate and it has helped me save a great deal of driving time. It calulates my gas expenses and it optimizes my routes, I can put in time I need to arrive and how long I will be there. It works better for me than Gps. I punch in my visits for the day and it gives me my print out. I can put it on my lap top if I want and it will tell me the directions. I think it has more detailed information than Mapquest. Just my opinion I hope it helps someone. I know you can get the program with a GPS attatchment also for your lap tap.:nuke:

I have a TomTom One XL and it's the greatest!

The only problem with some GPS's is that sometimes homes that are newly constructed aren't added to the maps yet but you can update those.

And some GPS systems have an additional satellite thing that you can connect so that real-time traffic information is updated to your GPS so that you can avoid areas of heavy traffic.

I bought a car with GPS factory installed. It really has been helpful, especially the voice direction feature. Prior to having the GPS, always used Mapquest. Still may look up addresses on Mapquest. Am considering getting a handheld, just haven't decided which one. Want to make this decision carefully as I only want to buy one, instead of getting one and deciding I need to upgrade later on.
