home health aide--worth it?

Published

i work for a whole bunch of home care companies (i'm a CNA)

is it worth is to take the home health aide course? i'd like to apply to companies such as sutter, and the home health agencies...

I take it that in your state the HHA certification is "above" or "in addition" to CNA?

In some states, HHAs are lower than CNAs, and in others they are higher.

Gaining that additional HHA certification may open up more job opportunities for you. It's always nice to have options, especially in today's job market.

i live in california, the programs i've seen require CNA before HHA

Specializes in LTC, Home Health, Hospice.

Any type of education you can get will only benefit you. In

CA, its required. I have both.

Having a HHA certificate increases your work opportunities in home health. Employers see someone who has made the effort to specialize in home health beyond the "nursing home" focus of the typical CNA course. Many positions state that a HHA certificate is preferred or they will lean toward the candidate who has one over the many candidates who have never expanded upon their CNA certificate. If it gets you the right job, you will see the advantage.

do you guys know where any programs are in california? i live in the SF bay area.

community colleges usually have hha clases, there like 2 units
