Hi Everyone!
I might have a chance at getting a position with home care nursing. What do you all think of this as a first time New Grad position? Jobs are so hard to find, so I'm thinking if I get it, I'm taking it to at least hold me over till something else comes along...

I would be nervous to start as a home health nurse just because I have the feeling I am going to be asking a lot of questions my first year and usually you are by yourself. It is a job though and who can pass up a job in this economy!

It is not advisable, but not unheard of, particularly if you choose to work in extended care, rather than intermittent visits. You will need to emphasize to the employer that you expect a thorough orientation. You can be oriented to work on a certain case or cases, and can be quite successful doing routine care for stable patients. For the intermittent visits, though, you really need the assessment and critical thinking skills that come with a solid background in med surg nursing.
