Holmes LPN Entrance Exam Question!

Published

Hey, I am about to take the LPN Entrance Exam next week at HOlmes and was wondering if anyone has taken it before and if so what to expect! I don't have a clue what to study for or what type of Math or anything.. Please help!! Thanks!!

I am currently in the LPN program at Holmes. Graduation June 30 :yeah::yeah:. I took the compass test last year and it is pretty basic. I remember a lot of algebra and reading comprehension. Just relax, take a deep breath and you'll do fine. Good luck and if you have any questions about the program I will try to answer them the best I can.

COngrats!!!! This is so ironic because I was just reading your posts between you and divine about the entrance exam. So how is it going, is it hard?? Did y'all end up having to do an interview? Thank you so much for your help!

Thanks. It's going great. I have had 1 A and the rest B's each semester so far. Last semester my B's were 90, 91 and 92 which were almost A's. It is difficult and you have to be really dedicated. I study alot. We have lost 12 overall so far. It is hard on the family, but it will all be worth it in the long run. We did not have to do an interview. We took the compass test and then they notified us we got in. We went to orientation before class started so we would know what was expected of us and what tuition and fees would be each semester. The instructors are great. They are very strict but great to us. They make sure we know our stuff. I have a friend that was in my class that failed out 2nd semester. She will be taking the compass test again to get back in. Maybe yall will be able to go through it together. I wish you all the luck on the compass. Please ask me anything and I will answer as best as I can. Again, good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Wow! It does sound tough! I am married with two children, a 4 yr old and soon-to-be 6 yr old. I barely get any time to myself. I think that is what I am most nervous about, that and the fact I am up against 480 applicants for a 30 slot class. I am a PCA (personal care assistant) which they didn't ask about that during application it's not a CNA but I have taken care of a quadriplegic for 7 years now. He has everything from a trech to peg tube, to urostomy & colostomy. I have even admistered him IVs. (he's my brother-in-law) but also my "job". I work for Ms. Department of Rehabilatation services. I don't know if my job would even help with my getting in this program.. all i know is I am a nervous wreck!!!! lol

Wow!! Sounds like you have a leg up on anyone else. Too bad they won't consider all of that before selecting. I didn't have any medical experience so it was hard on me. I don't really know how they select, but I do know they won't do interviews unless they change it this year. I believe the compass test, ACT and GPA play a big part. I would say taking A&P does too, but I know there are people in my class that have never taken A&P before. What day do you take the compass? If I'm not mistaken yall will have orientation the week we are gone for board review which is June 20-22. That means they should let yall know pretty quick after the compass tests are completed. It will probably seem like an eternity to you though. I remember that feeling.

Well, I made an 18 on my ACT, i took it 7 years after being out of high school, I have a 3.4 GPA and I have already taken Human A&P 1 and 2, Human Growth & development, all the other courses in ADN Nursing. I am hoping that will help me. I had originally planned on doing that program but didn't make the ACT requirements in the MAth area. I needed a 17 and made a 16 so I decided to do LPN first. I take my test next week on Wednesday the 11th. *crossing my fingers!!*

KBASS2 Good luck on the compass tomorrow. You will know your scores before you leave the testing center. Let me know how it turns out.

THanks! WEll I made a 92 in reading, a 99 in writing, and did bad in math :crying2: I made a 44 in pre-algebra and a 34 in algebra. I ao a great math student just been too long LOL! I hope I did okay!

I didn't do well on the math part either. Not as well as I should have anyway. To ease your mind, the math they teach you in LPN school is not bad. Believe me they go over and over and over it. Let me know as soon as you hear something. Now you just have to play the waiting game. I know it is torture.

The sad part is I am great at math when i am in a math class....it's remembering it lol. I took beginning algebra a couple of semesters ago and had straight A's that was 6 years after high school....I haven't had any math since then, so teaching myself trying to study for that test was extremely hard because i just didn't remember. So what are my chances up against 480 people with a math score like that lol.

I can't really say what your chances are, but I was told the one that they look at most is reading comprehension. Not sure if that is true, but it came from a pretty reliable source. It all depends on what kind of GPA, ACT & Compass scores the other 400 have. You also have to consider that the 400 is for all campuses. There may only be 100 or so for whatever campus you applied for. I didn't think to ask you which campus you applied for? I am at Goodman.
