i emailed ec regarding my plan for taking the gen ed courses, and when i plan to enroll. here's my letter:
"i received my transcript evaluation, and my plan is to complete the 4 gen ed courses first, then do the nursing exams i can take before enrolling. once all those are complete, i will enroll, and start with the other nursing exams.
the first 2 courses i am going to take are human growth and development clep, and penn foster information literacy. after that, eng 101 through straighterline and microbiology ec exam. does that sound like a reasonable plan of action?
please let me know... i have already started buying books and studying. i'm so glad to be an excelsior student!! "
here's the response i got... note the typos, poor grammar, and non-answer.... every step of the way, i am being urged to enroll!! (i am wondering, if i take these classes, the way i have planned to do it, will they really deny my credits and.... don't they really want my approx $6,500??)
"hi barabra
thank you for your continued interest in excelsior college and decision to continue your program. specific course approval and course/exam recommendations if a benefit of enrollment and offered to enrolled students.
i invite to enroll as soon as possible, there is always a risk with taking courses/examinations that have not been approved by your academic advisor.
i hope this information is useful, if you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact our admissions office at the information provided below."

I had my unofficial review a few months ago for my pre-req's & my letter stated that EC wasn't going to accept any of them because my LPN program was a certificate/diploma program. Has anyone ever experienced the same response from EC? And I'm wondering if that scenario would be any different if I was enrolled? Any feedback welcome, thanks in advance....

If you took things like A&P or Life Span Psych in your LPN program more than likely it will not transfer to anywhere. I had this same problem with my LPN diploma also, there is some teeny tiny fine print somewhere saying that my degree is a "terminal" degree, meaning it transfers no where, the courses I took only applied to my LPN diploma and nothing else. I only got credit for things I took at the community college, and even then I had to kind of push for credit with a few of them.

Ok... I just had a long talk with Bill at EC Admissions. Some of my courses that I thought they didn't use went toward the Electives, or were not used because the requirement was fulfilled. So, I'm good there.
We talked for a while about Penn Foster Info Lit. He said the issue there was whether or not their course will continue to be ACE accredited. If not, then NO, they would not continue to accept it. I called Penn Foster, and was told they are going to continue to renew ACE Accreditation for all their courses, so it should be ok.
My plan to do Eng101 through Straighterline and CLEP HG&D is fine, he said. I am going to take the EC exam for Micro, then take the Transition and Health Safety Nursing Exams. After taking all of those, I will enroll.
Now, here's the BAD NEWS: Excelsior College's Fees are ALL going up July 1!! He said they usually do go up in July, but this is the first time he can remember that they have ALL gone up...
Here is a summary:
Enrollment 895 to 975
Exam fees 250 to 275
Annual fee 440 to 465
Practice exam 65 to 75
FCCA 390 to 450
CPNE 2025 to 2035
Wow... I guess procrastination is really gonna cost me!! Now I need to JUST DO IT!!
