Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

We have been given the slides that we (think) will be used on our lab practical. Its all online so the slides will come off our school's biology website. However, I'm having the hardest time remembering for the 20+ slides, what each is, where they're found, and what the function is. How did you all remember all this info? Our practical has to be taken by Monday, Feb. 22. Thanks!

Hey,

You wouldn't happen to be going to PVCC. Well our lab practical is scheduled this week also. Yes we have 27 slides to study for I have found that repetition is the best thing for me. Our lab has a booklet with different lab questions that we have to turn in. The last one that I did was the classification of tissues. I would try to find all the similarities of the tissues then the differences.

Epithelial Tissues-(Lining Tissues)

Simple Squamous- Squished cells one layer.

Simple Cuboidal - Cubed shaped one layer

Simple Columnar- Cells in long column one layer.

Pseudostratified Columnar- Appears to be more then one layer, but you can tell it's one layer because of the locations of the nuclei.

Statified Squamous- Squished cells with multilayers.

Stratified Cuboidal- Cube shaped cells with multilayers.

They all have a basement membrane and underlying connective tissue.

PM me for more info.

Nope not PVCC. But I do have a prof. who tests very unfairly and gives you absolutely NO IDEA what the test will cover. His objectives don't match the exam. He says he's using pics from the website, but honestly, we would not be surprised if he used other random ones. Our test over ch. 1-3 (holes) was only 48 questions! And our practical only has 90!

Anyways, that's a good way of breaking the tissues down and looking at them-THANK YOU!!!

I spent as much time as I could in open lab looking at them. As well as pics online and in the atlas. Learning the different features made it much more easier for me to recognize them and know where they would be located.

For instance stratified vs simple epithelial - Not only do they look different but their differences can clue you in on where they will be. Stratified covers the skin it needs to be thicker than simple. Simple has only one layer so it would not offer as much protection for outer covering.

Know which ones absorb, which ones secrete, which ones cover, which ones have goblet cells, for mucus and it will be easier to remember where they are located. Transitional is pretty easy since it expands for the bladder.

Specializes in NICU.

Definitely find identifying features of each one, and study from there. I remember stressing about slides! We had to identify them under a microscope so I would look at them, draw them, and then write any special features in my own words so that they were easier to remember.
