  1. No, not my final. Wish it were that simple!
  2. Oh, trust me, you do not! This is about as opposite as it comes with his teaching style!!! He lectures on our textbook, assigns readings from it, then uses a different, much higher level text to write our tests-very difficult! So much so that everything he does leaves the other faculty members in an uproar, and the Dean is getting involved now too!
  3. I honestly am not sure what direction he wants us to take-this is so far off what he normally teaches, discusses, etc.! I'm leaning towards our curent environment having such a strong effect on our bodies with the onslaught of carcinogens, foreign chemicals, horrible diet, lack of exercise, constant stress that we (our bodies) are constantly in one form of a feedback loop or another in so many systems and on so many different levels and then giving specific examples of each. Does this sound like its in the ballpark or am I completely off?
  4. Seriously, this is an essay question from my A&P class! What is functionally wrong with the idea that homeostasis maintains the constancy of the internal environment? How constant is the internal environment? Is constancy important, or is there another term that better describes what the various regulatory systems achieve? Okay, I've googled until my fingers bled (okay, not that far) and I can find NOTHING on this side of the topic! Ideas? Insights? HELP!
  5. Super! I will definitely be taking a look since I'm actually using that book this fall! What school are you at?
  6. I am not a nurse-yet :), but I have a 4 year old and a 1 year old. My pedi advised to offer a sippy cup when they are introduced to cereal (with a spoon-NOT in a bottle!). Her explanation was that 1. getting them used to drinking from cup, not breast/bottle 2. they are beginning to decrease breastmilk/formula consumption, thus needing water 3. it helps to wash down the cereal/aid in digestion. Like I said, I'm not yet a nurse, but this was my personal experience with two babies of my own!
  7. Thanks to all who responded! I am still finishing pre-reqs right now. Teaching, I prob. spent AT LEAST $200/month on classroom items alone, not counting dry cleaning, etc. That was just bulletin boards, books, supplies, snacks, materials for lessons, etc. And most was not tax deductible, since I didn't meet some minimum standard to itemize. Good to know what I've got down the road!
  8. I am just starting my second career journey into nursing. I was an elementary school teacher for 11 years before I decided I needed to pursue nursing. I also had a lot of continuing job related expenses that really added up-every single year. What job expenses do you have as a nurse? How much equipment/supplies do you have to supply yourself? After reading some threads on scrubs, it appears they are much cheaper than having a professional wardrobe-and no dry cleaning! I know this may seem petty but I like to really have an idea of what I get to look forward to. Thanks!
  9. I can't stand the thought of being away from my kiddos and family that many hours (with studying!), but I keep telling myself the payoff in the longrun will be worth it. Though I'm not sure my heart is believing it right now! I'm only taking one class right now and to say its been difficult is an uderstatement-but I also have no child care (2 small kids) and my husband works crazy shift work to barely make ends meet, so we really have no choice but to plow through and take one day at a time!
  10. I needed to read this also. My hubby has a very demanding career and he's all but refused to do housework when I was working full time before. (Now I'm a SAHM to a 4 and 1 year old, waiting to get into NS). So this will basically all be on me, but if a single mom can do this...so can I !!!
  11. I'm actually doing A&P1 online now and 2 in the fall. We meet 2 times a semester for the dissection part of labs, the rest we do through aprevealed.com. That's an incredible program. I think its probably harder online than in person, but its easier for me since I choose when I study around my family's schedule. You def. have to be disciplined, but I like it. (Plus we can speed up our prof's lecture!)
  12. And what makes this either easier or more challenging is that its all online! I've never handled a bone (though I could go into the lab) and the practical is images on a computer test! I have the websites for the sources of the images, but how do I go about using ALL those images to remember?? (its images from ap revealed for skull and all the rest are off 3 professors' power points to teach the lab, so LOTS of images!)
  13. I know this is just the beginning, but sheesh! I simply can't keep these straight! I've got power points (where our computer test images are coming from), ap revealed, textbook, 2 lab manuals to look at. I've (tried) drawing and labeling my own, made multiple copies of lab figures to label over and over and over again, done many online activities....anything else I could try???
  14. Wow....thanks! DH is a homicide detective, and when he gets called to a scene, he could be gone for 20+hours! I might not even know until he's 5 or more hours over his shift end time. He also works weekends and holidays as well. He makes more than me and carries the benefits, and I'm hoping after 2 or 3 years to either work part time or just on call, mainly so I can be at home more. I can't really see having my kids out of thier own house that many hours, even 2 or 3 days a week so I think the nanny might be best, but some weeks I might not need one, some for 3 days, and others woiuld be very last minute. Any ideas on how to handle that??
  15. For those of you with young children, what do you do for child care when your spouse isn't able to watch them? My husband's schedule is totally unpredictable and when I start working, my oldest will be in 1st grade, and my youngest will be in a part time preschool. Pretty much all the hospitals in the area work 7-7 shifts (which is where I'll probably start out in). I am still going through the prerequisit classes but am thinking into the future here, wondering if I need to rethink some things. How do you balance child care with such crazy hours?
