Due to the oil boom, places such as Minot, North Dakota and Midland, Texas have hospitals that are willing to hire new grads. However, the oil boom has resulted in a shortage of decent housing in these towns since so many workers recently relocated to work in the oil fields.
A handful of border towns (Pecos, TX and Eagle Pass, TX) also hire new grads. Your chances of securing employment also increase if you are willing to work in impoverished areas such as rural Kentucky.
A lot of nursing homes will hire new grads, but... it seems like a lot of people who have worked in LTC
for a good while, have difficulty transitioning to acute care. So.. if you want to work in a hospital,
getting a job at a nursing home may or may not be a good idea. On the other hand, you do
what you have to do if you need the money.
Also, I just checked Appalacian Regional Healthcare (ARH)'s website, they are indeed
very much in need of nurses; many positions available. They serve southeastern
Kentucky and southern West Virginia. It certainly would not be a bad place to get
started. I live in Kentucky; SE Kentucky is indeed poor, but beautiful and certainly
not as dangerous as certain other poorer areas of the country, such as certain
urban areas. I live near Lexington myself.
