I called the manager today that I interviewed with 3 weeks ago, but couldn't get a hold of last week. He said he'd complete my references and had just been waiting for the req # for the position he wanted me in to be posted. Well it still hasn't been and I had re-applied for another one on that unit, Telemetry. I gave him that req # and he said it was for a day shift position (he's trying to put me on nights which is what I want). After making a phone call to the person who is supposed to key the open positions in the computer, he called me back and asked if I'd be willing to work day shift during my 6 week orientation. I said "umm, yes..." I can survive day shift for 6 weeks. I don't have an official start date yet, but at least I know I have a job.
This isn't the unit I wanted, but I also can't wait the two months or more it may take to get a NICU position. However, all is not lost. After a few months I can transfer if there is an opening on NICU and considering they are expanding the hospital I forsee that happening. Besides, it may be easier to get onto NICU if I'm already employed there right?
Now wouldn't it be funny if after I am official and start orientation I get called for an interview for NICU?

You have a postive outlook, which is great! Good luck:)
LOL I can't help from having a positive outlook, if I didn't I'd never get out of bed. Its been a hard 5 months. I never thought it would be so hard to find a job, well I knew finding one in NICU would be hard....but elsewhere in a hospital?
I'm going to use this job to build up my skills and prove I can be a team/reliable player. I know I've been an LPN, but I now have to learn to be an RN...which contrary to popular belief is a wee bit different. I'm going to keep reading and posting to this forum as I still want to be a NICU nurse. I just might have to take the scenic route to get there.
