This. ^^^ Hospital's IT dept can track your EMR activity. That should be conclucive proof that either you accessed the charts or yout didn't. If you didn't but coworkers claimed you did, I would think that would ruin their credibility re the allegation that you were talking about said pt.
If/when you're cleared of any wrongdoing, I don't see why you'd need to disclose to future employers. I mean, you didn't break any laws.
I was told because more than one person said I said something they had to terminate me for a hippa violation. They could see I looked at the tracking board which I did do but I never clicked on the pt's name. I am just hoping it isn't going to affect my license. I have an interview this coming week but I am not sure if I should tell them about the violation or not.
Hmmmmm, I've never heard of gang mentality being a legitimate reason for firing someone. And they should be able to tell if you went into an actual chart. I'm not sure what a tracking board is.

I would have to click on the pt's name to view anything about the pt and they never said they saw that I looked at information and I know I didnt look at any information. The kicker is the one girl involved I do not get along with and do not trust and shes friends with two other people there that nite.

I would contact your malpractice carrier if this is all true.
Two people, shmwo people! You can't *justly* be fired for an allegation with no proof. I would seriously consider finding a good employment attorney. I personally wouldn't want to work in that kind of environment, but you don't want any mention of a HIPAA vio in your employment history. Because if all is as you say, you are not guilty of a vio! There is no vio to disclose, repeat no vio.

I was terminated by my employer for a hippa violation on grounds of co workers saying I looked up information and was talking about it. What do you think will happen.....fine, lose license, jail time? Will this affect future employment opportunities?Should I tell future employers about this?
