Hello all,

I thought I would start a thread for those of us applying to HCC's Spring 2013 nursing program. I am a Veterinary Technician/stay at home mom. I'm gathering everything for my application and hoping to drop it off at HCC soon. The deadline isn't until 6/1 but they recommend turning it in at least 30 days in advance. I'm a current HCC student. I was planning on applying for Fall this year, but am now expecting a little girl to arrive in July so spring it is! My pre-req GPA is 3.86 (all A's and 1 B), I'm hoping that this is good enough to get me a spot in the program for DM evening classes. Good luck to all!

Rachanee

my prereq GPA is 3.70, hopefully thats good enough. whats yours?

mine is either a 4.0 or a 3.8. I withrew from Enc 1101 a few times back in 1991 and 1992. My advisor doesn't think it will count against me as it was before 1997 when they made the rule to deduct points for repeats, but we are not entirely sure how that will work. All A's in my pereqs. I had very good professors at HCC these last 2 years. I would think 3.7 is very good.

Thanks, are you trying for DM nights or days? I am hoping for DM days if I dont get that i'll have to switch with someone. With your GPA you are already in. Good job.

RnNTraining, thank you for all of the information that you provided. I love to be prepared and hate to go into a situation without any info. You have saved me from a lot of anxiety!

moneek, I applied for DM days and will choose mornings so maybe we will be in the same class at DM! The other campuses are too far away for me to be feasible and I haven't thought about what I would do if I was stuck somewhere else.

So far, I think I am the oldest on here - I graduated high school in 1984 and have grown children, ages 23, 18, and 16. My youngest will be the only left for me to homeschool so I am taking the plunge into nursing school and a career. The waiting is annoying, but I expected it thanks to this board.

I am shooting for DM days too! Maybe we will all be together. That would be great!

Moneek it looked like there were quite a few prople in other groups willing to switch although I wouldn't think you will have to. It seems on the 3 boards I zinged through nights and weekend classes are the hot one to get, so I hope DM days is wide open.

jodypRN I have a 24 year old, 19 year old and a 2 year old. All I can say is no sleep at our age is quite a bit different than no sleep at 20something. I hope I am up for the challenge.

I am right there with you both! i'll be 40 next year and I also changed my career from banking to nursing, big change and I am still getting used to that idea. I dont think we are old just more mature and wiser. I hope we all get in and get the times we wanted. I am excited but nervous at the same time. I know failure is not an option so the challenge is on.

Moneek somehow I don't see failure in your future.

One thing I know I have to start doing is going back through my A and P notes. I have talked with several people who have told me they forgot more than they remembered and they were lost. That is my big fear at this point.

Thank you for saying that peppa. I too have to refresh myself because i completed A&P last december and I have forgotten most of it. I think it is also a good idea to start practicing those calculations because from what i've heard the moment classes begin its full steam ahead and no breather. Its best to at least have some idea of the material we will be covering. Hopefully we'll have a great professor.

Just read throught the first half of the thread. Does anyone know if Rachanee has had her baby yet. I saw she started this and hasn't been on in a while. I hope all is well. Those last few weeks before and the first few months after can be rough. Although I wish I had something that exciting to keep me occupied so I could quit checking webadvisor for my documents to show up.

I have applied for financial aid for the first time and I waiting to see if I will be approved. The thing is I have completed all the classes I could possibly take including all electives and so now I will have no more classes to take in the fall. Do you know if I could use the funds I received now to pay for my first semester of nursing in January or not? I really dont know how it works as this is my first time going through this process. All my other classes I paid for out of pocket.

All my documents are showing received with the exception of my financial aid consent form. You may want to call them just in case you have docs missing. Hopefully they are just slow in updating the system.

No baby yet. Any day now though! I had originally wanted DM evenings, then changed my mind to mornings, and yet again now to DM evenings. I first changed my mind to accommodate dropping my oldest off to VPK. Due to my husband's new work schedule, evenings and clinicals on Saturdays will be much more convenient. I emailed health sciences and they changed my preference for me on my application. So DM evenings/weekends it is.
