Hillsborough Community College Nursing Spring 2021

Published

Hey Guys! I've seen forums for Fall 2020 but none for Spring 2021 even though the deadline is coming up in a couple of months! I thought I'd set a forum up to ask questions and help each other out! I haven't even taken my TEAS yet because everything is closed but anyway!

Overall GPA- 3.7

Pre-req GPA- 3.4

TEAS -N/A

Hey guys I have a question. I’m hoping to get into the Spring 2022 program. My GPA right now for prerequisites is 3.5 and overall is 3.6. My TEAS is a 67% but I was hoping to retake it before application. What do you think my chances are of getting in? Also I saw a professor on Reddit say that practical certificates will help me with my application. I am certified home health aide and CNA so I was hoping that would help. Any info on on that?

If anyone knows any info about it please text me on Instagram @clawyvee or just reply here. Thank you

@Clawy
I am currently going into my second semester of nursing at hcc in plant city.
You have a shot at getting in especially since your applying for the Spring start that usually always has lower GPA's get in.
It really depends on the GPA's of the other applicants. Your right around the cuttoff for last years Spring it was for prerequisites GPA's of 3.52. Some waitlisted people got in;' I'm not sure how many but their prerequisite GPA was 3.47 and overall was 3.7. Don't retake the TEAS it won't matter they only care if person made a 60% or above they don't use the score for placement that's based on prerequisite GPA. For hcc profession certificates doesn't help your application. They rank everyone based on prerequisite GPA and then the tie breaker is overall GPA. I've heard people that didn't get in the first time they applied got in the second application period so don't give up hope.

I see thank you. I think I will still take the TEAS just cause I’m thinking of applying for Polk state college too and their TEAS requirement is 70%z Let me show you this thread that is supposedly a professor at HCC

What do you mean by second application period? There’s 2 application periods?

That might be just a regular academic advisor  if so they are often incorrect with health science information. There's two health science/nursing advisors at dale mabry that's who I would get information from I have check out the nursing application it also listed the health science email. I never heard for professional certificates helping at hcc  this is from the application  "- Letter of recommendation, voluntary work, college degree are not considered for admission. Do not have any weight in the student admission status." and I went to a nursing information session at hcc in 2019 that was held by the nursing director at hcc and they explained the process and never said that helps. That's good that your applying to polk I know a couple people that didn't get in to hcc that got into polk. There's two application periods in a year fall and Spring so some people that didn't get in the first time they applied in the year so say the first time was in the fall then they applied a second time during the Spring.

Yeah it could be.  And yep just incase I don’t get in. I was also thinking of Pasco. Do you know those people’s stats by any chance? And oh I thought you meant 2 application periods each semester

I personally wouldn't recommend Pasco I got my a.a. from hcc then applied to pasco RN since they didn't' require college algebra the whole school is a mess and they make their program ridiculously challenging. I had to retake first semester nursing twice they have horrible pass rates and the program director had to leave her early due to how horrible the success rate was and that was precovid then during covid that made their current nursing student wait a whole year due to not going to clinical sites even though the state lets nursing students do a certain portion of clinical experience online and now I passed all first semest of nursing school with straight A's at hcc and I have an A in my RN to BSN usf class  so no run far away from pasco is my advice. Of the 35 students I started class with at pasco only 10 of them graduated which is horrible

Wow! That’s absolutely crazy! I am much closer to HCC too so I really hope I get into HCC.
