Hi, I have a question for anyone who might know or be able to help me. I'm a Senior in high school in Shelby County, and am currently in my second year of the 1/2 day 'Healthcare Science' course (pre-Nursing / pre-Med) at the county's School of Technology. This last semester coming up after Christmas, I will be doing internship/clinical rotations at Shelby and Brookwood Hospitals. I have always carried a solid 'B' average, and am secretary of our local HOSA chapter.
My question is, will this course help me in any way get into Nursing School? The nursing applications all stress the point system, (points, points, grades, grades!) but don't give you a way to address two years of hard work in what is basically a 2 year pre pre-nursing course. My instructor says that the course will enable me to get an entry level job in the medical/healthcare field, but I'm going on to college, to Nursing School if I can get in. I will be taking my Compass Reading test in the next month or so.
Course Goals - Syllabus:
Students will:
1. Perform entry-level healthcare skills.
2. Exhibit skills for healthcare employment.
3. Practice legal and ethical behaviors.
4. Describe healthcare delivery and financing.
5. Use medical abbreviations and terminology.
6. Communicate within the healthcare system physician's orders.
7. Use electronic methods of communication.
8. Complete CPR certification.
9. Analyze medications using medical references.
10. Perform healthcare skills in a clinical agency.
I know that after I take my Compass Reading test, I will see the nursing advisor, but I want to know something now!! :chuckle Can anyone help?
Sorry this is so long, and Thank you ever so much!
